Patent number: 9313232Abstract: A method is provided in one example and includes generating a query for a database for information stored in the database. The information relates to data discovered through a capture system. The method further includes generating an Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) element to represent information received from the query. A rule based on the OLAP element is generated and the rule affects data management for one or more documents that satisfy the rule. In more specific embodiments, the method further includes generating a capture rule that defines items the capture system should capture. The method also includes generating a discovery rule that defines objects the capture system should register. In still other embodiments, the method includes developing a policy based on the rule, where the policy identifies how one or more documents are permitted to traverse a network.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 2014Date of Patent: April 12, 2016Assignee: McAfee, Inc.Inventors: Ratinder Ahuja, Faizel Lakhani

Patent number: 8850591Abstract: A method is provided in one example embodiment and it includes identifying a root term and determining one or more other terms belonging to a group associated with the root term. The method also includes selecting one or more of the terms from the group and generating a concept based on the selected terms from the group, wherein the concept is applied to a rule that affects data management for one or more documents that satisfy the rule. In more specific embodiments, the root term is identified via a search or via an incident list. In other embodiments, a collection of meaningful terms is provided to assist in determining the other terms for the group, the collection of meaningful terms being generated based on the root term. Patent number: 7630358Abstract: A mechanism is disclosed for enabling a plurality of logical routers to be implemented within a single physical router. The logical routers emulate the behavior of interconnected, standalone routers. For example, the logical routers may be made aware of the presence of other logical routers within the same physical router. The logical routers may also have internal “links” to each other. In addition, the logical routers may send routing information to each other. Thus, to each other and to routers external to the single physical router, the logical routers appear as if they are interconnected standalone routers. The logical routers may be further endowed with an ability to determine whether the next hop for a set of information (e.g. a packet) is to a logical router within the same physical router or to an external router. The logical routers take advantage of this distinction to perform routing between logical routers more efficiently.Type: GrantFiled: July 9, 2002Date of Patent: December 8, 2009Assignee: Sable Networks, Inc.Inventors: Faizel Lakhani, Gary Croke, Riad Hartani, Bert Tanaka, Phillip Laverdiere

Patent number: 6930998Abstract: A hybrid central office for serving a plurality of subscriber lines while serving as a virtual access tandem to a subnetwork of central offices having a connection to an ATM backbone network is described. The hybrid central office includes a computing module having a messaging interface to the ATM network, an inter-working trunk interface to the ATM network and a trunk connection to the PSTN. The hybrid central office serves as a tandem switch for other central offices connected to the subnetwork. Other central offices are preferably connected to the subnetwork by a signal large trunk group. All inter-office call routing is therefore handled by the hybrid central office. The hybrid central office also provides a gateway to the PSTN. Inter-office calls originated and terminated within the subnetwork are set up by the virtual access tandem but after call set up, the virtual access tandem is not involved in the call.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 1998Date of Patent: August 16, 2005Assignee: Nortel Networks LimitedInventors: Dany Sylvain, Faizel Lakhani

Patent number: 6757285Abstract: A method and apparatus for completing telephone calls between trunk subnetworks overlaid on an ATM backbone is described. Each of the trunk subnetworks include a call manager which is configured for exchanging signaling messages with both a common channel signaling network and the ATM backbone network. This permits ATM facility providers to link subnetworks using a common infrastructure so that calls can be effectively diverted from the PSTN between end offices while fully supporting PSTN/ISDN services. This is achieved by using a signaling method in which call request messages are encoded by a first call manager with a parameter so that a second call manager in the signaling path can effect backward call set up between ATM interfaces using data from the parameter. The advantage is the extension of call completion between subnetworks overlaid on an ATM backbone using ATM facilities without sacrificing PSTN/ISDN call features.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1998Date of Patent: June 29, 2004Assignee: Nortel Networks LimitedInventors: Faizel Lakhani, Dany Sylvain

Patent number: 6721322Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and method for provisioning dynamic high usage trunk groups between end offices in a switched telephone network. The system includes a transit trunk subnetwork with ATM facilities connected between the end offices. A call manager communicates with the end offices and the ATM facilities to process signal messages from the end offices, and send corresponding messages to interfaces between the end offices and ATM facilities. The interfaces are configured to dynamically set up and release switched virtual circuits in response to signal messages from the end offices or the call manager. In an alternate embodiment of the invention, an element manager in the end offices is configured to receive signal messages from the call manager to dynamically provision high usage trunks between the end offices.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 1998Date of Patent: April 13, 2004Assignee: Nortel Networks LimitedInventors: Faizel Lakhani, Dany Sylvain
