  • Patent number: 11638368
Abstract: Data center mechanical infrastructure is incrementally deployed and commissioned to support incremental changes in computing capacity in a data center while mitigating interaction between infrastructure being commissioned and installed computer systems. Incremental mechanical infrastructure commissioning can be concurrent with incremental electrical infrastructure commissioning and includes operating mechanical infrastructure to remove heat generated as a result of operating electrical infrastructure to support simulated electrical loads as part of electrical infrastructure commissioning. Incremental mechanical infrastructure deployment can be based on the power support capacity provided by incrementally deployed electrical infrastructure.

  • Patent number: 10476298
Abstract: An elevated automatic transfer switch (ATS) cabinet provides power support redundancy to a set of electrical loads in one or more rack computer systems. The cabinet includes multiple-phase power feed input receptacles which each receive a multiple-phase power feed and distribute the separate phases of the power feed to separate ATS modules installed in the cabinet. Outputs from separate ATS modules can be distributed, via separate cabinet output receptacles, to electrical loads in one or more rack computer systems. Backup ATS modules can be installed in parallel with ATS modules, so that ATS modules can be replaced while maintaining power support. Particular bypass circuits in the cabinet can be selectively closed to bypass selected ATS modules with selected power feeds, based on manual interaction with one or more elements of the bypass circuit, including manual insertion of a conductive element into a slot element of the bypass circuit.

  • Patent number: 10198056
Abstract: A busway system enables multiple interchangeable power support redundancies to be provided to electrical loads. The busway system includes multiple busways extending through an aisle space, where some busways carry power from separate primary power sources, and one or more busways carry power from a secondary power source. Busways are coupled to loads to provide power support directly to the loads, indirectly via devices that distribute power to the loads via branch circuits, etc. The power support redundancy provided to a load is established based at least in part upon which busways are coupled to the load, and power support redundancies can be changed by changing the couplings of particular busways with the loads. The busways can extend through the aisle space in a staggered configuration to enable load balancing between busways by restricting loads in certain regions of the aisle space to coupling with certain busways and not others.

  • Patent number: 9983248
Abstract: Power distribution infrastructure is incrementally deployed and commissioned to enable incremental infrastructure deployment to support incremental changes in computing capacity in a data center, where interaction between infrastructure being commissioned and installed computer systems is mitigated. Power distribution system commissioning includes coupling busway stub segments to a downstream end of the power distribution system and operating load banks, coupled to each busway stub segment, to simulate the power distribution system supporting electrical power consumption by multiple sets of computer systems through the busway stub segments.

  • Patent number: 9939790
Abstract: A rack installation control system adjustably controls the rate at which rack computer systems are installed in computer rooms in one or more data centers, based on the electrical power consumption by the installed rack computer systems. The rack installation rate can be adjusted based on installed rack computer system power consumption exceeding a threshold, including a threshold proportion of a power supply capacity of a power distribution system. When the power consumption by installed rack computer systems in a particular computer room exceeds a threshold, rack computer system installation can be initiated in an additional room. Where a computer room includes a fixed number of positions, and when the fixed number of racks is installed in the computer room and at least some power distribution system power capacity is available, additional rack computer systems can be installed in an additional space to consume the available power distribution system capacity.

  • Patent number: 9857855
Abstract: A concurrently maintainable secondary power distribution system enables redundant secondary power support to electrical loads, which receive independent primary power support from separate primary power systems, via a secondary power busway. Separate bus ducts, each carrying power from a secondary power system, are coupled to opposite ends of the busway. Each bus duct can carry power from a separate secondary power system, and switching devices bridging the connections between the bus ducts and the power busway can selectively switch the power busway from one of the bus ducts to the other bus duct, thereby switching between one of the secondary power systems. The separate secondary power systems can be coupled together at various points in the respective power systems, so that one or more portions of one of the secondary power systems can distribute power received from an upstream portion of another one of the secondary power systems.

  • Patent number: 9537291
Abstract: An elevated automatic transfer switch (ATS) cabinet provides modular and incremental power support redundancy to a set of electrical loads which reduces capital waste and increases the floor space which can be occupied by electrical loads. The cabinet includes a mounting element which can be coupled to a free-standing structure proximate to the floor space, so that the cabinet is supported by the structure in an elevated position and is freed from occupying floor space. The cabinet includes slots in which separate ATS modules can be installed via blind mate connections, thereby enabling modular and incremental installation of ATS support capacity in the cabinet based on incremental installation of electrical loads. The cabinet can physically couple with power cables extending from separate electrical loads, so that the cabinet electrically couples ATS modules to electrical loads independently of branch circuits between the cabinet and the electrical loads.

  • Patent number: 9437387
Abstract: A tap box assembly with separated annunciator emits a visual signal from an annunciator separated from a tap box such that the visual signal can be viewed from a remote location. The tap box provides electrical power from a busway to one or more rack computer systems via a power cable. The visual signal indicates whether the tap box is in a normal or abnormal state. A tap box assembly with separated annunciator can be coupled to a busway that extends down an aisle at an elevated position. A tap box assembly with separated annunciator can couple to a busway that extends along an aisle in an underfloor space. Data center technicians can easily view the state of a plurality of tap boxes of an aisle from an end of the aisle based on the visual signals emitted from a plurality of annunciators coupled to a plurality of tap boxes and separated from the tap boxes by a separation distance.
