    Abstract: In accordance with one embodiment, a processing device includes a heated internal wall and a rotating rod positioned within an interior space formed by the heated internal wall. The rotating rod may be hollow and act as an internal heat exchanger. The processing device also includes a plurality of baffles spaced apart from one another along the rotating rod and extending away from the rotating rod towards the heated internal wall. The processing device also includes at least one wiper or roller coupled to an edge of at least one of the plurality of baffles or porous, packed basket, coupled to the rotating rod and that contacts the heated internal wall while rotating together with the rotating rod. In another embodiment, a processing device may be used to adsorb reactive gases into a liquid phase while heat is exchanged.

    Abstract: Jewelry apparatus have a front planar body and a back planar body hingedly attached to one another by a transverse hinge, a retractable member secured to one of the planar bodies, and a cam in the transverse hinge in operative engagement with the retractable member and incorporated to rotate when either the front planar body or the back planar body rotates to an open position, thereby pushing the retractable member into a protruding position. Each planar body has a central spine, a first leaf, and a second leaf opposite the first leaf that are each hingedly attached to the central spine by a hinge oriented in a lengthwise direction (perpendicular to the transverse hinge). The lengthwise hinges can be spring hinges that automatically bias the first leaf and second leaf into an elongate position after the front planar body is folded along the transverse hinge to an open position.

    Abstract: A machine learning system to determine an identity of a user is trained using triplets of ad hoc synthetic data and actual data. The data may comprise multimodal images of a hand. Each triplet comprises an anchor, a positive, and a negative image. Synthetic triplets for different synthesized identities are generated on an ad hoc basis and provided as input during training of the machine learning system. The machine learning system uses a pairwise label-based loss function, such as a triplet loss function during training. Synthetic triplets may be generated to provide more challenging training data, to provide training data for categories that are underrepresented in the actual data, and so forth. The system uses substantially less memory during training, and the synthetic triplets need not be retained further reducing memory use. Ongoing training is supported as new actual triplets become available, and may be supplemented by additional synthetic triplets.
