    Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for enhancing cell wall properties in plants. The method comprises introducing into the plant, at least one nucleotide construct comprising a nucleic acid molecule operatively linked to a regulatory region active in the plant, wherein said nucleic acid molecule encodes a polypeptide with galactinol synthase (GolS)-like activity and growing the plant under conditions that permit the expression of the nucleic acid, thereby enhancing the cell wall property of the plant.
