  • Patent number: 10943776
Abstract: A mass spectrometer is disclosed comprising an ion mobility separator 4 for separating ions according to their ion mobility, one or more first devices or stages arranged upstream of the ion mobility separator and a control system. The control system is arranged and adapted to monitor directly or indirectly the operating environment within the ion mobility separator 4, and to control the operating environment within the ion mobility separator 4 based on the monitoring by controlling one or more gas flows to or within one or more of the one or more first devices or stages.

  • Patent number: 10586691
Abstract: A method of mass spectrometry is disclosed comprising separating precursor ions using an ion mobility separator such that different precursor ions have different drift times through the on mobility separator; mass filtering said separated precursor ions with a mass filter, wherein the mass to charge ratios of the precursor ions transmitted by the mass filter vary as a function of the drift times of the precursor ions through the ion mobility separator; performing a first mode of operation comprising fragmenting the separated and mass filtered precursor ions in a fragmentation device to form fragment ions; urging the fragment ions through the fragmentation device such that fragment ions derived from different precursor ions that have been separated by the ion mobility separator are maintained spatially separated from each other as they are urged through the fragmentation device; and detecting the fragment ions. The method enables precursor ions to be associated with their related fragment ions more accurately.

  • Patent number: 10551347
Abstract: A method of mass spectrometry is disclosed comprising isolating a group of different ions derived from chemical compounds in the same class, wherein the different ions have different mass to charge ratios and ion mobilities. The step of isolating comprises temporally separating the ions according to their ion mobility in an ion mobility separator; and mass filtering the ions according to mass to charge ratio with a mass filter. The mass to charge ratios transmitted by the mass filter are varied as a function of time such that said different ions derived from chemical compounds in the same class are transmitted by the mass filter and other ions are not transmitted by the mass filter.

  • Patent number: 9697996
Abstract: A method of mass spectrometry is disclosed comprising: performing a survey scan of a plurality of different types of parent or precursor ions, wherein the survey scan comprises analyzing the ion mobilities of the ions and mass analyzing the ions; determining the charge states of parent or precursor ions analyzed in the survey scan based on their determined combinations of ion mobility and mass to charge ratio; selecting a parent or precursor ion for fragmentation or reaction; and fragmenting or reacting the selected ion, wherein the fragmentation or reaction conditions are selected from a plurality of different fragmentation or reaction conditions based upon the determined charge state of the selected ion.
