  • Patent number: 4808194
Abstract: A pumpable aqueous suspension of slag, fly-ash, char, and mixtures thereof which contains a surfactant and has a reduced viscosity and increased resistance to sedimentation. The aqueous suspension is produced by quench cooling and/or scrubbing a raw effluent gas stream from the partial oxidation of solid carbonaceous fuel. It may have a solids content of about 1.0 to 50.0 weight percent. The surfactant comprises an anionic or nonionic adduct of an alkyl phenol and polyoxyethylene or polyoxypropylene. In one embodiment, a solid carbonaceous fuel is wet ground with the aforesaid aqueous suspension and make-up water, if any, to produce a stable aqueous slurry feed to the partial oxidation gas generator.

  • Patent number: 4749381
Abstract: A pumpable slurry of solid carbonaceous fuel and water with reduced viscosity and increased resistance to sedimentation comprising about 50 to 75 weight percent of comminuted solid carbonaceous fuel having less than 10.0 weight percent of combined oxygen, about 0.1 to 10.0 weight percent of a surfactant comprising an anionic or nonionic adduct of a mono or dialkyl phenol and polyoxyethylene or polyoxypropylene, and the remainder of the slurry is water.

  • Patent number: 4705537
Abstract: Separation of clarified water and rapid settling of the particulate solids e.g. ash, slag, char and mixtures thereof from aqueous dispersions of quench cooling and/or scrubbing water as produced in the partial oxidation process for ash-containing solid carbonaceous fuels is effected by mixing with said dispersion a sulfonated product of humic acids and their salts and adjusting the pH of the mixture to a value in the range of about 2 to 6.

  • Patent number: 4575380
Abstract: The problem of creaming during formation of disperse-slurry of H-coal residue by ball milling with water is eliminated by use, as an anti-creaming additive, of the triethanolamine salt of dodecylbenzene sulfonic acid.

  • Patent number: 4541937
Abstract: A surfactant flooding system for enhanced oil recovery is disclosed which comprises sulfonated creosote oil, as well as a surfactant and solubilizer. The use of sulfonated creosote oil substantially lowers the viscosity of the surfactant system as well as improving the oil recovery efficiency of the system.
