  • Patent number: 8816863
Abstract: Systems and methods for generating a laser beam illuminating a space around an object are provided. The laser beam illuminates an animal that is approaching the object in the space. The laser beam is generated by a laser illuminating at least a first micro-mirror that moves under control of a processor. Additional micro-mirrors are contemplated. The laser beam reflected from the moving micro-mirror illuminates the space around the object. Laser, processor and micro-mirrors are dimensioned to illuminate with a high probability an area with a cross-section perpendicular to a laser beam of 10 cm by 10 cm inside the space at a distance of up to 200 meters from the laser or farther.

Abstract: An arrangement and method to prevent a collision of a flying animal with a wind turbine is provided. A camera-system is arranged at the wind turbine and the camera-system generate images of the environment of the wind turbine. An evaluation system is coupled with the camera-system and the evaluation system evaluates the images to detect a flying animal within the environment of the wind turbine. A warning system is coupled with the evaluation system and the warning system generates a warning signal if the flying animal is detected by the evaluation system. • Publication number: 20100012499
Abstract: A method and apparatus is described for recharging a fuel used to produce hydrogen for a hydrogen consuming device. The fuel can be NaBH4 which forms NaBO2 upon reacting with H2O to produce hydrogen. The NaBO2 is converted to NaBH4 through a series of coupled chemical reactions which include reacting NaBO2 with a metal and hydrogen to produce NaBH4 and oxidized metal. The oxidized metal can then be recycled using an electrolytic process which converts the oxidized metal to metal and oxygen. The apparatus includes a transport mechanism for removing the spent fuel such as NaBO2 from the hydrogen consuming device to the charger and delivering the recharged fuel, such as NaBH4, back to the hydrogen consuming device.

  • Patent number: 7119687
Abstract: An object tracking system includes a plurality of tags. Each tag includes a mechanism for transmitting a triangulation signal and a position signal that is indicative of a change of position of the respective tag in a time period since a respective reset event. A plurality of triangulation stations receive the triangulation signals from the tags. At least one antenna receives the position signals from the tags. A computer is coupled to the triangulation stations and to the antenna. The computer is programmed to switch between (a) a first tag location algorithm to determine a current location of one of the tags using a differential time of arrival procedure based on the triangulation signal, and (b) a second tag location algorithm to determine a current location of the tag based on the position signal transmitted by the tag and a previous known location of the tag.

  • Patent number: 6101274
Abstract: A computer-implemented method for the identification and interpretation of text captions in an encoded video stream of digital video signals comprises sampling by selecting frames for video analysis, decoding by converting each of frames selected into a digitized color image, performing edge detection for generating a grey scale image, binarizing by converting the grey scale image into a bi-level image by means of a thresholding operation, compressing groups of consecutive pixel values in the binary image, mapping the consecutive pixel values into a binary value, and separating groups of connected pixels and determining whether they are likely to be part of a text region in the image or not.

  • Patent number: 5835163
Abstract: Apparatus for detecting a cut in a video comprises arrangements for acquiring video images from a source, for deriving from the video images a pixel-based difference metric, for deriving from the video images a distribution-based difference metric, and for measuring video content of the video images to provide up-to-date test criteria. Arrangements are included for combining the pixel-based difference metric and the distribution-based difference metric, taking into account the up-to-date test criteria provided so as to derive a scene change candidate signal and for filtering the scene change candidate signal so as to generate a scene change frame list.
