  • Patent number: 7123707
Abstract: Methods, and communications devices employing such methods, of controlling communications with at least two calling party devices by a user of a called party device. A first call link is established between a called party device and a first calling party device. The called party device then receives a call request from a second calling party device; e.g., a call-waiting indication. A user of the called party device places the first call link on hold, and accepts the call request from the second calling party device to establish a second call link between the called party device and the second calling party device. While the user of the called party device is in communication with the user of the second calling party device, the user can cause a message to be transmitted to the first calling party device, whereby the user of the called party device can communicate information to a user of the first calling party device without interrupting communications with a user of the second calling party device.

  • Patent number: 6490550
Abstract: A system and method for IP-based telephone communication utilizing speech-generated text is disclosed. An embodiment of the present invention includes an interface to the Internet for sending and receiving voice and video signals. In addition, the embodiment generates text signals corresponding to voice signals generated by the user. A transmission signal is generated from the text signals and the voice signals for transmission over the Internet. Further, the embodiment of the present invention includes an application which is capable of receiving video and/or speech-generated data transmitted by another device, and concurrently displaying the speech-generated data and video to a user. The speech-generated data may be converted to an audio signal and applied to a speaker concurrently with the video and speech-generated data. In this way, a user is capable of easily communicating speech-generated information to another user during periods of voice signal loss.

  • Patent number: 6289223
Abstract: A system and method in a telecommunications system for enabling an originating mobile unit to deliver SMS messages to a select plurality of destination mobile units. A mobile station ISDN number (MSISDN) is assigned to a usergroup wherein this usergroup contains at least one and preferably a plurality of member MSISDNs. An originating mobile unit may then transmit an SMS message to a plurality of destination units by transmitting an SMS message addressed to a predefined usergroup MSISDN thereby eliminating the necessity of the originating mobile unit addressing and transmitting the SMS message to each member of the defined usergroup. Allowances are made to restrict such transmission to specified originating units.
