  • Publication number: 20090128641
Abstract: Signal processing techniques are applied to digital image data to remove the distortion caused by motion of the camera, or the movement of the subject being photographed, or defective optics, or optical distortion from other sources. When the image is captured, the effect of relative motion between the camera and the subject is that it transforms the true image into a blurred image according to a 2-dimensional transfer function. The 2-dimensional transfer function representing the motion is derived using blind estimation techniques or by using information from sensors that detect the motion. The transfer function is inverted and used to define a corrective filter. The filter is applied to the image and the blur due to the motion is removed, restoring the correct image. Another embodiment uses the transfer function to avoid blur by combining multiple consecutive images taken at a fast shutter speed.

  • Publication number: 20080298529
Abstract: A User Equipment (UE) receives and samples communication signals, where the communication signals have a time frame format, a transmission chip rate and a synchronization code associated with a time slot that includes a midamble that indicates a modulation of the synchronization code where a specified modulation of received synchronization codes identifies the timing for a timeslot in which data is to be received. The UE preferably includes a synchronization code determination circuit, a midamble determination circuit, and a phase modulation sequence detection circuit operatively associated with the midamble determination circuit. The UE can be configured for use with the low chip rate option of the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) standards that employ a predefined set of downlink SYNC codes that point to midambles which indicate SYNC code modulation sequence to enables reading of data in a subsequent Broadcast Channel (BCH) message.

  • Publication number: 20080240047
Abstract: A base station for controlling transmission power during the establishment of a communication channel utilizes the reception of a short code during initial power ramp-up. The short code is a sequence for detection by the base station which has a much shorter period than a conventional access code. The ramp-up starts from a power level that is lower than the required power level for detection by the base station. The power of the short code is quickly increased until the signal is detected by the base station. Once the base station detects the short code, it transmits an indication that the short code has been detected.

  • Publication number: 20080037669
Abstract: The present invention is related to indexing channel information feedback in a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO)-based wireless communication system. In one embodiment, at least one measurement of a channel metric is performed. The measured channel metric is quantized and a codeword is selected that represents the measured channel metric. Feedback is generated based on the channel metric measurement. The feedback includes an index to the selected codeword. A codebook is generated by partitioning a plurality of codewords into two or more tiers, assigning indices to the codewords and correlating the codewords in complex vector space and Hamming distance in binary indices. For any given codeword, a first subset of the codewords may have a higher correlation with respect to the given codeword. In another embodiment, the number of bits used to report codebook indexing is determined based on the frequency of the generation of the feedback.

  • Patent number: 7236785
Abstract: A multicellular communications system where transmission between a roving subscriber and multiple base station transceivers is maintained throughout the territory. Each mobile subscriber unit has global code seeds for the entire communications system or an updated neighbor list and continuously searches to access available cell base stations while maintaining a communication link with one base station. Candidate cell base stations are interrogated and communicated with. The candidate base station that requires less transmitting energy from the mobile subscriber unit is closely monitored. When the mobile subscriber unit can successfully communicate with less transmit power than currently required by the present base station, the mobile subscriber unit is handed off to the candidate base station transceiver.

  • Patent number: 7164705
Abstract: A transmission apparatus for generating a complex four-phase pseudo-random sequence having I and Q portions includes a shift register and an accumulator. The shift register has a plurality of positions. The accumulator has a first input for receiving an output from the shift register and a second input for receiving a predetermined value. The accumulator combines the data received via the first and second inputs and outputs the combined data to the shift register. Bits from a first predetermined position within the shift register are used to generate the I portion of the sequence and bits from a second predetermined position within the shift register are used to generate the Q portion of the sequence.

  • Patent number: 7123600
Abstract: A code-division-multiple-access (CDMA) system employing spread-spectrum modulation. The CDMA system has a base station, and a plurality of subscriber units. The signals transmitted between the base station and subscriber unit use spread-spectrum modulation. The system and method transmits from the base station, a synchronization channel having a chip-sequence signal used by the plurality of subscriber units for synchronization. A first subscriber unit receives the synchronization channel, and determines timing from the synchronization channel. In order to initiate communications with the base station, the first subscriber unit transmits an access signal. The access signal has a plurality of power levels, which typically ramp up. The base station receives the access signal at a particular-power level. The base station then transmits to the first subscriber unit an acknowledgment signal. The first subscriber unit receives the acknowledgment signal, and transmits to the base station, a spread-spectrum signal.

  • Patent number: 7110443
Abstract: A receiver and base station for producing phase-corrected channel signals. An adaptive matched filter produces a filtered signal by using a weighting signal. A rake receiver produces a filter weighting signal using a pseudo-noise signal generator. A channel despreader despreads the filtered signal using the pseudo-noise signal generated to produce a despread channel signal of the selected channel. A pilot channel despreader despreads the filtered signal using a pseudo-noise signal generator to produce a despread pilot signal of the pilot channel. A hard decision processor receives the despread channel signal of the selected channel and produces a correction signal. A phase-locked loop utilizes at least the despread pilot signal and produces a phase correction signal which is applied to produce phase-corrected channel signals.
