  • Publication number: 20110140892
Abstract: A system and a method for detecting multi-level intrusion events are provided. The system includes an area recognition module and an area classification module. The area recognition module performs a geometric topology operation to recognize a plurality of areas in a ground plane that has a plurality of boundaries and a plurality of gates, and each of the areas is constituted of at least one of the boundaries and at least one of the gates. The area classification module defines a plurality of security levels and classifies each of the areas recognized by the area recognition module as one of the security levels. Accordingly, the system is able to automatically recognize the areas in the ground plane, set the security levels of the areas, and generate the corresponding detection areas and tripwires according to the security levels of the areas.

  • Publication number: 20110028153
Abstract: A wireless device may receive a BA-list from a wireless service provider. Before removing any cell frequencies already stored in the wireless device, the wireless device may determine if the BA-list is complete. If the BA-list is not complete, the cell frequencies already stored in the wireless device may be retained, and the cell frequencies received in the BA-list may be added to the storage. However, if the BA-list is complete, the cell frequencies already stored in the wireless device may be removed if they are not in the BA-list.

  • Patent number: 7801403
Abstract: A tuning device for an optical fiber grating includes a multi-part confinement member. The confinement member includes a feature such as a channel in which the fiber grating is disposed. Movement of the different parts of the confinement member relative to one another causes compression or tension of the fiber grating. The confinement member may include first and second slides. One end of the fiber is bonded to the first slide, the other end of the fiber is bonded to the second slide. The grating section of the fiber is confined in a channel formed by adjacent surfaces of the slides. The dimensions of the channel are selected such that the fiber grating is maintained in a relatively straight orientation without buckling when compression strain is applied to the fiber. An actuator may be employed to control the strain applied to the fiber, i.e., to axially compress or stretch the fiber grating by driving one or both of the slides in a controlled manner.

  • Patent number: 7768402
Abstract: A method and system for reading and identifying RFID tags of the invention is disclosed. The invention is capable of registering and storing information of a plurality of RFID tags attached to objects of the same group into a memory block of at least a specified RFID reader or RFID tag. The invention is also capable of enabling at least a specified RFID reader/tag in response to a first inquiry of an interrogator by transmitting each identification code of the plurality of RFID tags to the interrogator for acknowledgement. The method is capable of achieving the objective of reducing the overall communication time as the reader does not have to inquire one by one to the RFID tags to save the number of times of communication between the inquiry of the reader and the response of the RFID tags. In addition, the reading rate of the RFID system can be improved effectively since at least one of the RFID tags can function as a spokesman for those RFID tags hidden deeply inside a pile of the objects of the group.

  • Publication number: 20100002733
Abstract: A Q-switched all-fiber laser utilizes a long period fibre grating (LPFG) modulator. The LPFG modulator is characterized by optical spectral characteristics that are controlled by application of stress via an actuator. In particular, the actuator applies stress to selected sections of the LPFG in order to modulate a light signal at a specified wavelength. Further, a controller is utilized to control the application of stress in the time domain, and thereby switch the Q-factor of the fiber laser cavity. In addition to the LPFG, the laser cavity comprises a pair of fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) and a fiber gain medium.

  • Publication number: 20090296745
Abstract: An apparatus that may be used as part of an optical amplifier or laser includes a pump fiber carrying pump light from a pump source and a clad gain fiber which includes a number of coils arranged with the pump fiber to form a pump coupler. The pump coupler includes (i) a coupling section of the pump fiber, (ii) a coupling section of each of the coils of the gain fiber arranged adjacent to the coupling section of the pump fiber, (iii) an index- matching material disposed between the coupling section of the pump fiber and the coupling sections of the gain fiber to provide a high degree of coupling of the pump light from the pump fiber to the gain fiber, and (iv) a low-index material at outward-facing surfaces of the coupling sections of the gain fiber. The coupling sections of the pump fiber and of the coils of the gain fiber along with the index-matching material form a waveguide exhibiting an oscillating characteristic of coupling efficiency versus coupling length.

  • Patent number: 7472400
Abstract: Dynamically generating a wrapper object to intercept transmissions between a vendor object and an application program and performs server side tasks. To dynamically generate the wrapper at runtime in memory, the application server receives a vendor class, performs reflection on the vendor class, generates a wrapper class, and creates an instance of the wrapper class. In operation, the dynamically generated wrapper object receives a call placed to a method of the wrapped object, initiates pre-processing tasks to be performed, calls the method on the wrapped object, receives a result from the method invocation against the wrapped object, initiates post-processing tasks to be performed, and transmits the wrapped result back to the application program. The pre-processing tasks may include execution of a pre-invocation handler. The post-processing tasks may include execution of a post-invocation handler.
