  • Patent number: 7158106
Abstract: An OLED device comprising: a) a substrate; b) one or more OLED element(s) formed on the substrate and having a common electrical connection for passing current through the OLED element(s); c) one or more transistor circuit(s) for controlling current passing through the OLED element(s); and d) a controller for measuring a current passing through the common electrical connection when the OLED element(s) and/or transistor circuit(s) are at an unknown temperature, for controlling the transistor circuit(s), and for comparing the current measured to an established current response determined under known OLED element(s) and/or transistor circuit(s) temperature conditions to determine the temperature of the OLED element(s) and/or transistor circuit(s).

  • Publication number: 20060132400
Abstract: An OLED device for the detection of ambient light level, comprising: a) a substrate; b) one or more OLED element(s) formed on the substrate and having a common electrical connection for passing current through the OLED element(s); c) one or more transistor circuit(s) for controlling current passing through the OLED element(s); and d) a controller for measuring a current passing through the common electrical connection when the OLED element(s) and/or transistor circuit(s) are exposed to ambient light, for controlling the transistor circuit(s), and for comparing the current measured to an established current response under pre-determined ambient and OLED conditions to determine ambient light level.

  • Publication number: 20060125734
Abstract: An OLED display, comprising: a) a substrate; b) a plurality of independently controlled light emitting elements formed on the substrate, the light emitting elements having an output that changes with time or use; c) a plurality of active-matrix circuits formed on the substrate for driving the light-emitting elements wherein the performance of some portion of the active matrix circuitry is altered in response to incident radiation, and wherein an incident light absorbing or reflecting layer prevents light from irradiating the portion responsive to incident radiation; d) a current measuring device for sensing the total current used by the display to produce a current signal; and e) a controller responsive to the current signal for calculating a correction signal for the light emitting elements and applying the correction signal to input image signals to produce corrected input image signals that compensate for the changes in the output of the light emitting elements.

  • Publication number: 20060077135
Abstract: A method for compensating an OLED device having one or more light emitting elements having an output that changes with time or use, comprising: a) driving the OLED device at a known drive signal, and measuring a first current used by the light emitting elements and a first light output produced by the OLED device at the known drive signal; b) driving the OLED device for a time period after step (a); c) driving the OLED device at the known drive signal after step (b), and measuring a second current used by the light emitting elements and a second light output produced by the OLED device at the known drive signal; d) determining an aging function based on the measured first and second currents, known drive signal, and first and second light outputs; e) driving the OLED device for a period of time after step (d); f) measuring a third current used by the light emitting elements at the known drive signal after step (e); g) calculating a correction factor for the OLED device to correct for change in light output of
