  • Publication number: 20160317837
Abstract: An ion therapy system for irradiating a patient with laser-accelerated ions may include a laser radiation source to emit laser radiation and a housing coupled to the laser radiation source. The system may have a laser target having a surface from which an ion beam can be generated. The housing may have a window portion to let an incident ion beam pass and to seal the housing. The system may have a vacuum system to generate lower pressure in the inner space of the housing. A focusing system may focus the laser radiation on the laser target. A control device may control the focusing system and adjust a propagation direction of the ion beam such that the ion beam impinges on an external target. The laser radiation source may generate laser pulses with a duration between 10?18 seconds and 10?12 seconds and an energy of at least 100 mJ.

  • Publication number: 20150375338
Abstract: A system for modifying a surface of an object, including a transport mechanism for transporting an object, a laser pulse generator for generating a laser pulse having an energy between 200 mJ and 400 mJ by pumping an active medium, a spatial light modulator being adapted to spatially modulate a laser pulse generated by the laser pulse generator and including an emitting surface that is adapted to emit a spatially modulated laser pulse, the spatial light modulator and the laser pulse generator being arranged to emit a spatially modulated laser pulse onto a surface of an object transported by the transport mechanism, wherein the laser pulse generator includes a Q-switch and a control unit that is adapted to control the point in time the Q-switch is switched, depending on a transport property of the object; and a method for modifying the surface of an object.

  • Patent number: 7790382
Abstract: The invention relates to the Slug gene, the replication, transcription or expression products thereof and products related with the regulation of said Slug gene or with the regulation, elimination or degradation of the expression or translation products of same, which can be used in the identification, prevention or treatment of the spread or development of metastasis in cancer patients, such as a patient suffering from a cancer with cancer cells that express the Slug gene.

  • Publication number: 20100061973
Abstract: The invention relates to the graded expression level of SNAIL gene or its expression products, as a marker of the capacity of epithelial and mesenchymal tumours and/or cancers for disseminating to other tissues or organs. The invention further relates to a transgenic non-human mammal comprising in its genome a transgene that comprises a nucleic acid sequence encoding the SNAIL protein, and the use of SNAIL as a marker of epithelial and mesenchymal tumours and/or cancers as well as in DNA damage-based diseases In addition, the invention relates to the use of SNAIL as a therapeutic and diagnostic target for said pathologies.

  • Publication number: 20080311092
Abstract: The invention relates to animal solid tumour models which comprise a transgenic non-human mammal containing in its genome a DNA construct that comprises a gene created and/or activated by a genetic anomaly associated with human cancer operatively bound to a promoter that directs the expression of the gene in Sca1+ cells. The invention also relates to stem cells capable of specifically expressing in stem cells human genetic anomalies associated with human pathologies. Applications of these models and stem cells, such as diagnostic, therapeutic and prophylactic applications for human diseases, and products and methods are provided.
