Patent number: 4338561Abstract: The high voltage testing system contains a series resonant circuit connected to a voltage source with a continuously variable frequency, whereby the insulation, connected in series with the inductor, which is being tested, either exclusively or at least partly, forms a part of the capacitance. The inductance may consist of several high voltage inductors constructed of modular elements. It is advantageous to use bar-core chokes.Preferably, the bar-core choke is suspended in the mass center by means of a mounting plate. Suitably, the coil of the inductor consists of two windings, each having a trapezoidal cross section.A static frequency converter would be suitable as a voltage source with variable frequency; the converter could be a direct converter built to act as an oscillating circuit converter, operating within the resonance frequency and with pulse-width control. At least one high-voltage capacitor may be connected in parallel to the insulation for the adjustment of the desired frequency.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 1979Date of Patent: July 6, 1982Assignee: Forschungskommission des Sev und VSE fur (FKH)Inventors: Walter S. Patent number: 4290736Abstract: An oil pump is disclosed having a pressure pipe which is coaxially disposed within a suction pipe to provide a shielding of the pressure pipe. Both the suction pipe and the pressure pipe are arranged parallel to a vertical axis of a housing of the pump. An oil-jet ejector is connected to the interior of the pump housing through openings which provide a continuous venting of the oil flow within the pump. The venting is provided on both the intake and discharge ends of the pump.Type: GrantFiled: September 7, 1978Date of Patent: September 22, 1981Assignee: BBC Brown, Boveri & Company, Ltd.Inventor: Felix Bernasconi

Patent number: 4242008Abstract: A rigid coupling between two rotating machines wherein one half of the coupling is provided with a boss which is inserted into a recess provided in the other coupling half. In order to center the boss in the recess, a centering ring is applied to the boss, the external surface of the ring which engages the wall of the recess having a conical configuration with a gradient of from 1:100 to 1:1000 which corresponds to a slope of from 1:200 to 1:2000 respectively. As an alternative, the centering ring can be applied to the wall of the recess, in which case the inner surface of the ring which engages the surface of the boss would be given a conical configuration.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1977Date of Patent: December 30, 1980Assignee: BBC Brown Boveri & Company LimitedInventor: Felix Bernasconi

Patent number: 4151760Abstract: An apparatus for rotating multiply-mounted shafting, comprising a rotational device for the continuous rotation of the shafting at a first rotational speed and an auxiliary rotational device for the continuous or intermittent rotation of the shafting at a second rotational speed which is lower in relation to the first rotational speed. There is provided at least one lifting device having an engaged part arranged at the shafting. Also there is provided an engagement member acting upon the engaged part for lifting the shafting and a drive mechanism which produces the requisite engaging force in order to move the engaged part.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 1977Date of Patent: May 1, 1979Assignee: BBC Brown, Boveri & Company LimitedInventors: Felix Bernasconi, Uwe Blum, Alfred Pesendorfer

Patent number: 4086690Abstract: A method for producing a rotor made from discs joined together in succession in side-by-side relation by welding comprises the steps of assembling each rotor disc and the succeeding disc next to be joined such that their axes are in horizontal alignment, pressing the two discs together thereby to place their interfaces under axial pressure, pre-heating each two discs to be joined to the proper working temperature, joining the discs by welding in a circumferentially extending welding seam while maintaining the pressure, repeating the assembling, pre-heating and welding operations until all of the discs have been welded together to establish the complete rotor, thereafter heat-treating the completed rotor, and finally subjecting the completed rotor to a hot true-running test. All of these operations take place within a common heating box into which hot air is introduced to effect the heating.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 1976Date of Patent: May 2, 1978Assignee: BBC Brown, Boveri & Company LimitedInventor: Felix Bernasconi

Patent number: 4009462Abstract: A fast actuating water resistor of high power, especially for use in thermal power plants for transient assumption of loads in the event of a rapid reduction in load in the electrical system supplied by the plant or faults within the system includes a low-pressure steam boiler containing a pressurized hot highly conductive aqueous solution such as brine which is ejected from a ring-shaped nozzle producing an annular conical jet spray through a tubular electrode having a truncated conical configuration. The nozzle and electrode are located in a tank which also contains a grounded collecting grid on which the spray impinges after passing through the electrode which is electrically connected to a bus bar lead passing out of the tank to one of the phases of the electrical power system supplied by the plant.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 1975Date of Patent: February 22, 1977Assignee: BBC Brown Boveri & Company LimitedInventor: Felix Bernasconi

Patent number: 3982849Abstract: A low pressure multi-stage axial flow steam turbine comprises an outer housing and an inner housing structure constituting a carrier for the rows of guide blading of the various stages. A steam inflow housing located within the inner housing structure forms the boundary of a crescent-shaped intake duct which surrounds and admits steam to the first stage guide blading which flows through the duct in the same direction as that in which the turbine rotor rotates, and the cross sectional area of the intake duct decreases progressively in the direction of steam flow therethrough such that the tangential components of the steam velocity conform to a predetermined function. The curvature of the intake duct at the inner periphery thereof increases progressively in the direction of steam flow therethrough such that the radial components of the steam velocity conform to a second predetermined function.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 1975Date of Patent: September 28, 1976Assignee: BBC Brown Boveri & Company LimitedInventors: Felix Bernasconi, Heinz Brunner, Pierre Meylan
