  • Publication number: 20100070051
Abstract: The invention relates to a cup-shaped prosthesis shaft consisting of an air-tight and essentially rigid material comprising a sealing means for protecting against the entry of air from the proximal open side, said shaft being used in prostheses for replacing limbs. The inside of the shaft is provided with at least one pump device such that relative movements between the stump and the shaft during the use of the prosthesis pump air out of the inside of the prosthesis shaft via flow channels and monoway valves to the outside of the prosthesis shaft. The pump action is obtained by varying the volume of a compartment formed from flexible or elastic films, said compartment being arranged adjacently to the strump in the main extension thereof. The compartment is either fixed to the inner wall of a rigid prosthesis shaft, or built into the wall of a flexible and elastic removable stump coating which is arranged, as part of the prosthesis shaft, between the stump and a rigid frame.

  • Patent number: 7235108
Abstract: A prosthetic liner for receiving a residual limb has a body with an open proximal end and a closed distal end. The liner includes a seal having an annular sealing lip positioned about the body axis on the body distal end. The sealing lip includes a root that is secured to the body distal end, and a sealing edge that extends from the root so as to form an opening and is biased away from the body distal end.

  • Patent number: 7169188
Abstract: A prosthetic socket is fitted at a distance from its distal end with an annular chamber. This annular chamber is closed by a contour-conforming sealing wall facing the inner side of the prosthetic socket, said wall being designed to hermetically rest against the outer side of a residual limb. The space between the contour-conforming wall and the hard prosthetic socket is vented to atmosphere, whereby self-enhancing compression by the sealing wall against a residual limb arises when a partial vacuum arises in the distal prosthetic socket between the wall and the distal end. A liner having a sealing wall also is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7144429
Abstract: A prosthetic socket seal includes at least one radially projecting sealing lip which jointly with a base subtends an annular gap. This annular gap is vented on a proximal side by the external atmosphere, resulting in creation of a pressure gradient at the sealing lip that produces stronger compression of the sealing lip against the prosthetic socket with increasing partial vacuum on a distal side of the sealing lip.

  • Publication number: 20040243251
Abstract: A prosthetic socket having an aperture at its distal end is fitted with a seal that is configured in such a way that a tension applied to the said prosthetic socket produces a self-generating force at the seal as a result of the atmospheric external pressure increasing the sealing action provided by the sealing lip. The seal may be affixed to the prosthetic socket and/or to a liner, the sealing edge always being radially nearer the aperture to be sealed than is the root of the sealing lip.

  • Publication number: 20040236434
Abstract: A prosthetic socket (2) is fitted at a distance from its distal end with an annular chamber (15). This annular chamber is closed by a contour-conforming sealing wall (18) facing the inner side of the prosthetic socket, said wall being designed to hermetically rest against the outer side of a residual limb (25).

  • Patent number: 4863201
Abstract: A coupling assembly includes a female coupling member that can be connected to a fluid supply source and a male coupling member that can be quickly coupled to the female coupling member and quickly separated from the female coupling member. A pair of spaced latching members provided on the female coupling member move transversely with respect to a longitudinal axis of the coupling assembly into and out of engagement with one or more latch engaging surfaces on the male coupling member. The latching members have openings that are out of alignment with each other. An actuating button on the female coupling member is arranged to move the latching members in predetermined fasion to permit the openings in each of the latching members to sequentially interfere with the latch engaging surface or surfaces on the male coupling member to establish sequential latching positions.
