  • Publication number: 20240118494
Abstract: A method of processing an optical fiber for coupling an external optical signal. The optical fiber has a longitudinal axis, an optical core, and an optical cladding. The method includes processing the optical cladding with a laser beam at a coupling point of the optical fiber along the longitudinal axis between a start and an end region. During the processing, an effective axis of the laser beam is arranged skew with respect to the longitudinal axis of the optical fiber so that the optical cladding is processed via an edge region of the laser beam, and the effective axis of the laser beam is guided along a movement axis which is parallel to or substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the optical fiber.

  • Patent number: 10119987
Abstract: An apparatus for measuring acceleration includes: a reference cavity having a first fixed reflecting surface and a second fixed reflecting surface; a sense cavity having a fixed reflecting surface and a non-fixed reflecting surface, the non-fixed reflecting surface being configured to be displaced when subject to an acceleration force; a light source to illuminate the reference and sense cavities; a controller to vary a wavelength of light emitted by the light source and/or an index of refraction of an optical medium of the cavities; a photodetector to detect light emitted by the reference and sense cavities; an interferometer sensor to measure using the detected light, for each variation of the wavelength of light and/or the index of refraction a reference displacement of the reference cavity and a sense displacement of the sense cavity; and a processor to calculate the acceleration using each of the reference displacements and the sense displacements.

  • Patent number: 9404362
Abstract: An apparatus for measuring fluid characteristics includes: a solid transparent body including a plurality of internally reflective surfaces defining a n-sided base having a polygonal shape and having at least three sides, each reflective surface forming a side of the polygonal shape, the plurality of surfaces configured to direct the electromagnetic radiation beam along a path within the solid transparent body from an entry area to an exit area on the solid transparent body; an electromagnetic radiation source coupled to the entry area on the solid transparent body; and a detector coupled to the exit area on the solid transparent body and configured to receive at least a fraction of the reflected electromagnetic radiation beam, the detector configured to generate a signal based on the received electromagnetic radiation beam and transmit the signal to a processor for at least one of analysis of material characteristics and data storage.
