  • Publication number: 20100026082
Abstract: A wheel covering system for attachment to a vehicle axle, in which the axle has a plurality of externally threaded lugs for attaching a wheel. The system includes a mounting member configured to be removably attached to the axle. A plurality of combination nuts, each nut including a bore with internal threads configured to mate with external threads on one of the lugs, being configured to attach the wheel to the axle; an external hexagonal portion for torquing the combination nut; an external threaded portion configured to pass through one of the holes in the mounting member, and also configured to receive a nut for attaching the mounting member to the combination nut.

  • Publication number: 20080252137
Abstract: A wheel covering system is disclosed having a first external cover element and a second internal cover element screwed to the first element. The wheel covering system is connected to an hub of a large vehicle such as a truck without relying on lugs provided on the hub for connecting the wheel to the hub. The connection is achieved by relying on bolts used to attach a hub cap (or axle cover) to the axle, without eliminating the hub cap (or axle cover). Provision is made for adjusting the length of the connector or mounting member.

  • Patent number: 4445165
Abstract: A unitary grommet, adapted to securely mount therein a headlight-protecting screens and further adapted to enable secure mounting thereof in a headlight-opening-defining portion of a vehicle bumper or the like, for protecting the vehicle headlight, is described. The unitary grommet is comprised of flexibly-resilient material, and includes a common wall, separating a peripheral screen-mounting section. The screen-mounting section extends behind the vehicle bumper headlight-opening, for preventing access thereto, and to enable secure and efficient mounting of the screen in the grommet. The bumper-mounting section is adapted to extend peripherally about the bumper headlight opening, when the grommet is properly mounted, and provides a molded channel for securely mounting the grommet in the vehicle bumper headlight opening.

  • Patent number: 4240670
Abstract: A wheel accessory, e.g., a full wheel cover or a hub cap has a mounting flange provided with openings which match the bolt pattern of the vehicle wheel. A majority of these openings are oversized with respect to the wheel's chamfered or ramped lug nuts so as to readily slip over them. The remaining openings are slightly undersized with respect to the major diameter of the chamfered lug nuts and require the removal of the corresponding lug nuts to allow mounting of the wheel accessory. The wheel accessory is held in place, in a non-interference fit, by expandable washers placed between the mounting flange and the chamfered end of the lug nuts corresponding to the undersized openings.

  • Patent number: 3960047
Abstract: A dual size lug nut for securing an automobile wheel to a hub. From a central head portion of the nut, threaded shanks extend in opposite direction. The two shanks have different threads. Thus the nut may be screwed onto either of two sizes of stud bolts, depending on which end of the nut is threaded onto the bolt. In this way the inventory of parts may be reduced, in that a single type or style of nut will serve alternatively either of two sizes of stud bolts. A cap or plug covers the exposed outward facing bore.
