  • Patent number: 5872534
Abstract: An electromagnetic wave absorber, having two or more magnetic layers for broadening the reduced reflectivity frequency bands, and formed of materials with staggered magnetic dispersion loss spectra. A high permeability nickel-zinc ferrite, rich in zinc, e.g., 0.7 molZn, 0.3 molNi is used as a reference absorber layer adjacent to a ground plane. The successively higher frequency spectra are related to the outer layers and the successively higher loss spectra are achieved by using higher magnetization soft ferro or ferrimagnetics, higher anisotropy semi-hard or hard ferro-ferrimagnetic material, or synthesized "smart" materials, for simulating magnetic loss dispersion. The successive layers are decoupled one from another by any of electrical, magnetic, and/or structural arrangements. The decoupling may be implemented by a significant difference in the frequencies at which the maximum values of the magnetic loss vs. frequency occurs for each layer.

  • Patent number: 4841259
Abstract: A four-pole or three-pole structure adapted to propagate an electromagnetic wave, such as an electrical line or cable or electronic component, comprises a lossy non-linear dielectric material distributed in a wave propagation direction. This material has a non-linear conduction characteristic whereby it is substantially non-conductive at any rated applied voltage of the structure and substantially conductive at any abnormally high applied voltage. It consists of a polycrystaline material comprising thin interstitial layers procuring a tunneling or Schottky type effect in response to a high electric field resulting from such abnormally high applied voltages. It absorbs both voltage surges (varistor effect in the time domain) and high-speed transients (lowpass filter effect in the frequency domain). The structure can be used to provide protection against lightning strikes, nuclear electromagnetic pulses, electrostatic discharges and radio-frequency interference in general.

  • Patent number: 4506235
Abstract: A cable with at least two insulated conductors wherein the symmetrical mode electromagnetic field between the conductors is essentially confined in a low loss dielectric medium and globally surrounded at least partially by a magnetic absorptive insulating composite, attenuating the asymmetrical current mode and providing a magnetic shielding effect against outside electromagnetic interference. The electromagnetic field of the symmetrical mode is confined between the two conductors while the electromagnetic field of the common mode is absorbed in the magnetic absorptive insulating composite.

  • Patent number: 4439824
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling a device such as a motor vehicle in which a signal representing a manually controlled function is compared with a function signal, and the manually controlled signal is then modified in accordance with the function signal. The function signal is developed by analyzing human functions of the operator, environmental conditions, and vehicle conditions, etc.

  • Patent number: 4402033
Abstract: A power activation device is provided which is controlled by an electrical signal so that the effective power activation signal wave form is made independent of the control input signal wave form through the use of a precise activation threshold so that the control input signal and the power activation signal are directly correlated through the same two input terminals. The precise activation threshold is determined by threshold elements such as a zener diode and the effective control signal which is supplied from the zener diode is independent of the input signal in both shape and duration.

  • Patent number: 4287545
Abstract: For optimizing the manufacturing cost of the magnetic torus of a differential transformer, the volume is reduced in that the free volume of the central aperture is fully filled: only one turn for each primary conductor, the section of which is reduced, the adjacent parts of larger section forming heat sinks, the central part of the conductors having the form of circular sectors. An important saving is secured on the most expensive part of the relay.
