Publication number: 20250197164Abstract: According to an aspect, there is provided a solution for evaluating a configuration associated with an elevator. An update request may be received for a new configuration to be deployed with the elevator. It may be checked, from a memory, whether the new configuration exists in the memory. When the new configuration does not exist in the memory, a request for performing configuration upgrade tests associated with the elevator may be issued. The request causes a testing environment to obtain information associated with a first testing procedure using a software package associated with an existing configuration used in the elevator and to obtain information associated with a second testing procedure using a software package associated with the new configuration to be deployed with the elevator. A diagnostic report associated with the first and second testing procedures may be received and stored in the memory.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 5, 2025Publication date: June 19, 2025Applicant: KONE CorporationInventor: Ferenc Staengler

Publication number: 20170362055Abstract: In modern elevators, safety circuits are used for preventing the operation of an elevator having possibly safety related problems. Sometimes the problem is in the safety circuit itself, and the operation could be continued. In a disclosed arrangement, groups of at least two independent safety circuits are used. The operation of the elevator can be continued in the case where one safety circuit in each group indicates that there is a possible problem. Thus, one deficient safety switch in one safety circuit does not prevent the operation.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 31, 2017Publication date: December 21, 2017Applicant: Kone CorporationInventors: Ari KATTAINEN, Juha-Matti AITAMURTO, Claus INGMAN, Ferenc STAENGLER, Gergely HUSZAK, Tuomas NYLUND

Patent number: 9575860Abstract: The invention relates to a method and apparatus. In the method, a programmable random access memory testing circuit detects a signal to initiate testing of at least one random access memory circuit, the testing circuit being connected to a bus to which a processor and the at least one memory circuit is connected, the at least one memory circuit comprising at least a first memory block. The testing circuit determines that the bus is not reserved and reserves the bus. The testing circuit reads application data in a first memory block to a temporary memory of the testing circuit. The testing circuit executes marching test for the first memory block in a memory circuit. The testing circuit returns the application data back to the first memory block in the memory circuit. The testing circuit releases the bus.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 2013Date of Patent: February 21, 2017Assignee: Kone CorporationInventor: Ferenc Staengler

Publication number: 20160275276Abstract: The invention allows checking the validity of a license of a maintenance unit for accessing a controller of a passenger transportation/access device of a building, without a need for an online connection to a service center or the like. An expiration time of the license is read from an encrypted license file stored in the maintenance unit in response to detecting the maintenance unit being connected to the controller. A manufacturing time and a current usage time of the controller, both stored in a secure memory of the controller, are read. A total of the manufacturing time and the current usage time of the controller are compared to the expiration time of the license. In response to the total not exceeding the expiration time, the license is determined to be valid.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 26, 2016Publication date: September 22, 2016Applicant: KONE CorporationInventors: Antti HOVI, Ferenc STAENGLER, Niko ELOMAA, Sampo AHOKAS
