  • Publication number: 20220379304
Abstract: A microfluidic sensor for the detection of analytes in objects includes a contact surface that may be attached to a surface of the object, an inlet hole in the contact surface for the entry of fluids emitted by the object, and a first reservoir which stores an ionic fluid in the form of a polymer matrix. The polymer matrix includes a reactive substance which changes colour when it enters into contact with the analytes of the fluids emitted by the object. It further includes at least one first microfluidic duct which connects the inlet hole to the first reservoir. A system for the detection of analytes, a method for the manufacture of the microfluidic sensor and the use of the microfluidic sensor for the detection of analytes in works of art are also related.

  • Publication number: 20190271675
Abstract: An ion gel including a hydrogel in an ionic liquid, and a reactive system that changes colour upon reaction with the nitrite and a microfluidic device having a substrate with calibration reservoirs that are separated from one another and include an ion gel, a calibration reservoir of the hydrogel in the ionic liquid, a reservoir for holding a sample to be analysed, connected to a measuring reservoir including an ion gel via a microfluidic channel with a reducing agent, and a measuring reservoir including an ion gel of the invention where a sample to be analysed is held and methods for producing the ion gel and the device, as well as a method for colorimetrically determining and detecting nitrite and nitrate in contaminated water using the ion gel and the device.

  • Patent number: 8163834
Abstract: A photoresponsive ionogel comprising a photo-responsive polymer polymerised within an ionic liquid matrix is described. This solid-state electrolyte material maintains its ionic liquid characteristics but these characteristics can be altered upon irradiation of the gel with light of a particular wavelength. By suitably configuring the ionogel through the incorporation of specific ions within the gel it is possible to cause dramatic changes in properties of the ionogel such as viscosity, conductivity, acidity, basicity and polarity using light as the stimulus.
