Hardware on the hip pads allows the position of the hip pads to be readily adjusted along a wearer's waistline. The hardware also allows the hip pads to be separated from straps of the waist belt that connect to the backpack, for example, allowing the hip pads and a front clasping portion of the waist belt to be completely removed as a unit.
