  • Patent number: 11508257
Abstract: There is described a method for controlling, in a display, a virtual image of a displaying object for which displaying is controllable. The method comprises providing a curved mirrored surface opposing the displaying object to produce the virtual image. The location of an observer is determined, with respect to the curved mirrored surface. A position of the virtual image can then be determined for the observer at the location, wherein this virtual image provides at least one of parallax and a stereoscopic depth cue. The displaying object is controlled to produce the virtual image as determined.

  • Patent number: 11170563
Abstract: There is described a method for operating an immersive display. A plurality of objects are displayed to a viewer within an immersive environment. A computer system controls an image rendering of the immersive environment and a size, location and appearance of each one of the plurality of objects. The controls can be made by the operating system adapted to this task. Such controls provide a monocular psychological depth cue to the viewer for each one of the plurality of objects.

  • Patent number: 11009640
Abstract: There is described a display apparatus for producing an aerial image of an object. The display apparatus comprises a display acting as the object to be imaged. A first beam splitter or reflective polarizer receives light from the display and redirects at least a portion of the light to one or two retroreflectors. Lens arrays can be added onto the retroreflector(s) to reduce blur. A second beam splitter or reflective polarizer receives the light from the retroreflector(s) and produces the aerial image. The second beam splitter or reflective polarizer is aligned with a point of view of the viewer, thus defining a horizon of the field of view. An opaque surface extends below the horizon, and the first beam splitter or reflective polarizer, the first retroreflective sheeting and the display are located under the surface and therefore below the horizon, thus keeping the over-the-head space free of equipment.

  • Publication number: 20070202471
Abstract: A simulator instrumentation system comprises a flat panel display and an overlay placed over the flat panel display. A controller is functionally connected to the flat panel display for controlling an image characteristic of the flat panel display. The controller is connected to a contact switch. A method of controlling an image characteristic of a flat panel display comprises the steps of connecting a controller to a contact switch of a flat panel display and simulating an input sequence of a contact switch using the controller.
