  • Patent number: 7393425
Abstract: Methods for providing a cable closure enclosing a cable splice include wrapping a flexible wrap including a gel layer and a flexible support layer around the cable splice with the gel layer adjacent the cable splice. The gel layer may have an adhesion-reducing substance applied on at least part of a surface of the gel layer facing away from the flexible support layer and a removable cover layer may be applied to a surface of the gel layer facing away from the flexible support layer on which the adhesion-reducing substance is not applied. The wrap is gathered into overlapping wrinkles around at least one longitudinal end of the cable splice without applying heat, other external energy source or catalytic agent to allow the gel layer to seal the at least one longitudinal end of the cable splice.

    Assignee: Tyco Electronics Raychem NV

  • Patent number: 6960380
Abstract: A flexible wrap (10) for enclosing a cable splice (20) without external heating includes a gel layer (1) and a support layer (2). The wrap has sufficient flexibility to be manually gathered into wrinkles around the smaller parts of the cable-to-splice transition with the gel sealing the resulting enclosure. The support layer (2), which is preferably made of low density polyethylene, provides mechanical strength and facilitates the application of the wrap (10). A vapour barrier layer (3), preferably made of aluminium, may be applied on the support layer (2). A protective layer (4) may be applied on the vapour barrier layer (3). An adhesion-reducing substance (6) may be applied on at least part of the side of the gel layer (1) facing away from the support layer (2) to allow adjustment of the wrap (10) when applied on the cable splice (20). Elastic or rubber tape (11) maybe wound around the applied wrap (10) to compress the gel. A re-enterable closure having a long sealing length may be obtained.

  • Patent number: 6353186
Abstract: A seal is provided for sealing an aperture in an object through which aperture one or more elongate articles extends. The seal includes a first support member having at least one longitudinally extending channel adapted to accommodate and support an elongate article. A second support member is longitudinally spaced from the first support member. The second support member has at least one longitudinally extending channel corresponding to that of the first support member and a sealing member is positioned between the first and second support members. An elongate article may thus be accommodated within the longitudinal extending channel of the first support member so as to extend through the corresponding channel on the second support member while deforming sealing member.

  • Patent number: 5455391
Abstract: A device for sealing an article, which comprises:(i) a sealing material;(ii) a resilient member that can be biased to apply compression to the sealing material to cause it to seal the article; and(iii) stop means for limiting said biasing of the resilient member at a configuration thereof in which said biasing can be increased by movement of the sealing material.

  • Patent number: 5324212
Abstract: A device (1) is described for disconnectably connecting cable wires to a contact plate (2). The contact plate contains a through opening (9) and, in use, one of the cable wires to be contacted is urged into contact with the edges of that opening (9). The cable wire is moved by a thrust piece (3) which also contains a through opening (24) and which is moved relative to the through opening (9) in the contact plate by means of a screw element.
