Publication number: 20220256334Abstract: Secure channel training to enhance the confidentiality level of a power domain non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) communication system when impaired by eavesdropping attacks coming from inside and outside of the network. In a first scenario, a cooperative jammer available in the system defines an external source of entropy that is independent of the channel variation rate. While the jammer provides secrecy inside the network, the proposed invention is configured to secure the network from outside, encoding the system information, which is exchanged during the training phase, using only the channel state. In a second scenario, the cooperative jammer is not available; with the secrecy inside and outside of the network ensured through a different parameterization. That parameterization is done in a way that the required system information is encoded using not only the channels, but also a random phase defined in the data communication phase.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 29, 2020Publication date: August 11, 2022Inventors: Atílio Manuel DA SILVA GAMEIRO, Daniel Filipe MARQUES CASTANHEIRA, Adão Paulo SOARES SILVA, Gustavo Miranda CASTILHO ANJOS

Patent number: 10725319Abstract: Provided is a display device capable of high-quality three-dimensional displaying. During three-dimensional displaying for a viewing position ?, in a first term, an entirety of a first predetermined region of a second liquid crystal panel takes on a light-blocking state and a first adjacent region, which is adjacent to the first predetermined region in the first direction, takes on a light-transmitting state. In a second term, at least one of two side regions in the first predetermined region takes on the light-transmitting state, a remaining region of the first predetermined region takes on the light-blocking state, and at least part of the first adjacent region takes on the light-transmitting state.Type: GrantFiled: January 6, 2017Date of Patent: July 28, 2020Assignee: SHARP KABUSHIKI KAISHAInventors: Takehiro Murao, Ryoh Kikuchi, Takayuki Yamada, Nathan James Smith, Andre Filipe Marques Da Silva, Martin Paul Buckthorpe

Patent number: 10476620Abstract: The disclosure pertains to wireless communications and, more particularly, to the exploitation of channel gain information, advantageously where more than two transmitter/receiver pairs transmit information over a shared medium. The disclosure applies distributed interference compression (23) at the receivers (receiver 1 (8), . . . , receiver k (9), . . . , and receiver K (10)) and repetition coding (13) at the transmitters (transmitter 1 (1), . . . , transmitter k (2), . . . , transmitter K (3)). Repetition coding repeats the same symbol stream (11) several times and the distributed interference compression (23) reduces the number of interference retransmissions (15) required to obtain the interference free signal (26). The throughput achieved by previous solutions is limited to two symbols per time slot, whereas in the present disclosure throughput is enhanced and is proportional to the square root of the number of transmitter/receiver pairs considered.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 2017Date of Patent: November 12, 2019Assignees: INSTITUTO DE TELECOMUNICAÇÕES, UNIVERSIDADE DE AVEIROInventors: Adão Paulo Soares Silva, Atílio Manuel Da Silva Gameiro, Daniel Filipe Marques Castanheira

Patent number: 10390008Abstract: A reconfigurable parallax barrier panel, for use in a display system with a 3D mode, includes a first substrate, a second substrate, and an electro-optic material positioned between the first and second substrates. The first and second substrates each respectively has a plurality of first and second electrodes, the electrodes being independently addressable from one another and comprising a plurality of electrode portions extending along a first direction and laterally spaced from one another along a second direction different from the first direction. The electrode portions of the first electrodes are arranged in a cyclic arrangement having a first pitch, and the electrode portions of the second electrodes are arranged in a cyclic arrangement having a second pitch that is different to the first pitch. The first and second electrodes are driven to generate different reconfigurable parallax barrier arrays corresponding to different viewing distances in a 3D mode of operation.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 2017Date of Patent: August 20, 2019Assignee: Sharp Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Nathan James Smith, André Filipe Marques da Silva, Takehiro Murao, Ryoh Kikuchi, Takayuki Yamada, Andrew Acreman

Patent number: 9323075Abstract: The present invention is in the technical fields of optics and ophthalmology. The present invention relates to a system for the measuring of the interpupillary distance, defined as the distance between the left pupil center and the right pupil center, not requiring the use of any artifact or additional objects on the person's face, and using a conventional electronic device comprising a processor, a camera (201) and a display with high reflectivity (200).Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 2013Date of Patent: April 26, 2016Inventors: Cesar Augusto dos Santos Silva, Andre Filipe Marques da Silva

Patent number: 9291834Abstract: A system for measuring the interpupillary distance of two eyes of a face using a device equipped with a display and a camera. For example, a guide marker (or guide markers) is displayed on a reflective display, and an image is captured using the camera when the reflection of the face is aligned with the guide marker. A stereo pair is created using the camera image and the reflection of the face on the display, and the interpupillary distance is determined by comparing the three-dimensional positions of the two eyes. The device is capable of calibration using a calibration object to detect the distance between the guide marker on the display and the camera. A facial recognition engine is employed in some cases to detect the eyes or other points on the camera image.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 2013Date of Patent: March 22, 2016Inventors: Cesar Augusto dos Santos Silva, Andre Filipe Marques da Silva
