  • Patent number: 9139078
Abstract: A hybrid electric drive system including a hydraulic power system for a hybrid powered vehicle which includes a transmission, and a combustion engine and an electric motor both mechanically coupled to the transmission to provide engine and/or motor drive power for the vehicle. A plurality of hydraulic circuits communicate with an electrically driven hydraulic pump. The hydraulic pump is configured to provide fluid circulation to the plurality of hydraulic circuits. The hydraulic circuits are each connected to the transmission and other corresponding vehicle components. An electrical power supply is configured to power the electrically driven hydraulic pump, and the electrical power supply is electrically communicating with a rechargeable high voltage (HV) battery system. The electrically driven hydraulic pump communicates with the plurality of hydraulic circuits to provide fluid pressure in the hydraulic circuits.

  • Patent number: 8875819
Abstract: A hybrid electric drive system is provided for driving a medium or heavy duty vehicle. The drive system includes an internal combustion engine configured as the primary source of motive power. The engine is coupled to a front-most axle and a first drive shaft in mechanical communication with a middle drive axle. The drive system also includes an electric motor and a clutch assembly; and a second driveshaft in mechanical communication with the electric motor and a rear-most drive axle. When the electric motor is not in active operation, the clutch assembly disengages the electric motor from the rear-most drive axle.

  • Publication number: 20140107879
Abstract: A system, computer readable storage device and method for controlling torque in a hybrid electric vehicle are disclosed. The method comprises determining a state of charge of an energy storage device, obtaining a reference state of charge, obtaining an error from a difference between the determined state of charge and the reference state of charge; and apportioning torque between a motor and an engine based upon the error. The motor is electrically coupled to the energy storage device and powered by the energy storage device. A state of charge (SOC) correction factor is determined based upon the error. The SOC correction factor is used to adjust a torque ratio of motor to engine torque that is determined for a given torque command.
