  • Patent number: 5957981
Abstract: An adjustable prosthesis joint, such as a prosthesis ankle or a prosthesis foot, and intended primarily for causing setting of the angular relation between an attachment means (4) forming part thereof for affixing the prosthesis joint (1) to a cooperating body part, and a detail (17) being angularly displaceably connected thereto, whereby the prosthesis joint is provided with means adapted to be actuatable to permit or to prevent such angular displacement, respectively, whereby said means is constituted by two communicating chambers (3a, 3b) containing a flow medium, with a shiftable valve (13) provided between the chambers, and at least one body designed as a piston (8, 9), rotatably arranged in relation to said chambers and movably arranged therein and adapted to permit flow of flow medium between the two chambers, when the valve is open and under influence of an external shifting force being displaced in said chambers (3a, 3b) in order to alter the relative sizes thereof.

  • Patent number: 5928290
Abstract: A fastening device for a prosthesis, the fastening device having a cylindrical channel and inclined washer designed to accept insertion of a cylindrical insert, such as a tube, bar or peg, with minimal resistance and yet substantially prevent withdrawal of the cylindrical insert from the fastening device unless a release mechanism is operated to permit withdrawal. The device permits rotation of the cylindrical insert with respect to the fastening device while still securely fastening the cylindrical insert within the fastening device, so as to prevent unlocking of the device and separation of the cylindrical insert.

  • Patent number: 5921358
Abstract: A rotation damper for toggle joints prosthesis (1) that is arranged for swing phase control of the prosthesis, and incorporates a housing having at least one clamber (13) with a damping medium disposed therein is disclosed. The chamber is arranged so that the damping medium is displaced through a restriction (14a) with a swing motion of at least one pivot axle (6) in the prosthesis. The damping medium is a visco-elastic compound, having an ability to exert a bigger resistance at rapid motion processes as compared to slower processes.

  • Patent number: 5800566
Abstract: A device for damping of the turning movement of a joint such as an artificial knee joint is built into a bearing bridge of a joint. The joint can be a seven pivot point joint with a shaft of one of the pivot points being provided with a gear-wheel. The damping device includes a hydraulic cylinder with a piston connected to the gear-wheel. Channels with chokes and back valves connect the two sides of the piston of the hydraulic cylinder whereby adjustable damping in several steps can be achieved. A compact design for a joint and damping cylinder is achieved.

  • Patent number: 5376133
Abstract: An artificial foot which includes a foot blade and a hollow cylindrical body which extends at an angle to the foot blade and which is connected thereto in a manner to permit relative movement therebetween. The foot also includes a two-part brace which is displaceable and adjustably mounted in an upper end of the cylindrical body and is attached to the foot blade at a lower end of the body in a manner such as to permit relative movement between the foot blade and the brace. Displaceability and adjustability of the brace, and therewith angular adjustment of the foot, may be provided by the combination of a ball screw and a ball nut which is rotatable, and selectively lockable by the user.

  • Patent number: 5314498
Abstract: An artificial knee-joint provided with linkage mechanisms, where a thigh part and a lower-leg part are mutually connected by tow base linkage arms, each of which is pivotally connected at respective ends with both the lower-leg part and the thigh part, wherein the pivotal attachment points of the lower-leg part are disposed in moveable attachment elements which mutually coact in a manner such that the knee-joint will automatically either adopt a substantially locked or a moveable position, depending on the direction of the load acting on the knee-joint. The first attachment element is pivotally connected to the two base linkage arms extending from the thigh part and has three pivot points, whereas the second attachment element has two pivot points. The back base linkage arm extending from the thigh part is pivotally connected to both attachment elements. The second attachment element is provided with a lock-stop device which limits movement of the attachment element.
