Abstract: An adhesive, flat skin barrier product for use as semi-manufacture in the production of, a.o., dressings, wound-care devices, electrodes and fastening means for ostomy equipment and catheters, consists of alternating zones of material of at least two different kinds (26,28,30) at least one of which is a skinfriendly self-adhesive material. The zones are parallel and extend in a direction usually at right angles to the main surfaces of the product. The zones may for instance be parallel strips, co-axial rings, co-wound Archimedean spirals or short strands.The skin barrier product offers the advantage that in a simple way it may be produced to comprise, besides the sealing material itself, other components for special purposes, e.g. having contents of antiseptics, medicaments or others biologically active substances of liquid-transporting or electrically conductive structures.

Abstract: In a deodorizing gas filter for ostomy bags (22), consisting of a sheet (10) of deodorizing filter material, for example a porous foamed plastic with particles of active carbon, and having a central inlet opening (12), a gas-tight connecting layer (14) to the bag on one side of the filter sheet, and a gas-tight covering layer (24) on the other side of the filter sheet, the covering layer consists of elastic film material, or is provided with a layer of elastic material at least in that part covering the central opening and an immediately surrounding zone thereof.

Abstract: A skin barrier consisting of an elastic film (16), secured to the film a layer (18) of at least weakly elastic adhesive material, these two components together having low resistance to quick deformation and rapid recovery to substantially the original shape after deformation, the plastic properties of the adhesive thereby being compensated by the elasticity of the film. Optionally there may be a releasable protective cover (20,22) on the other side of the adhesive layer. The adhesive material consists of a hydrocolloid, preferably sodium carboxymethylcellulose, dispersed in a continuous phase consisting of a mixture of (a) a physically cross-linked elastomer which is a styrene-olefin-styrene block copolymer, (b) a hydrocarbon resin tackifier which is a polymer or copolymer of cyclopentadiene, dicyclopentadiene or .alpha.- or .beta.

Abstract: An ostomy sealing disc adapted to fit around a stoma and forming a seal between the skin around the stoma and a drainage pouch, the sealing disc having an opening through which the digestive juices flow from the stoma into the drainage pouch and comprising a layer of a hydrocolloid and a layer of an elastomeric material, the two layers being firmly attached to each other.
