  • Patent number: 8353358
Abstract: Arrangement for reducing harmful effects from fire and/or explosion comprising wall elements that are placed in adjacent relationship to one another to form a continuous wall. The element are adapted, when an explosion occurs, to open the area towards the surroundings until the pressure in the area is balanced in relation to the surroundings. Thereafter the elements return to their closed state to enclose the area in relation to the surroundings, preventing air from the surroundings from entering the enclosed area and prevent fire extinguishing fluids from exiting the enclosed area. Preferably, the elements comprises an elastically deformable material so that when the element is forced open, elastic energy is stored in the element to rapidly return the element to the closed state.

  • Patent number: 6752168
Abstract: A system for controlling the working conditions for mechanical pumps supplying associated devices with pressure fluid via a pipe system. A valve means (25) is placed between at least one of the pumps and an appurtenant device supplied by the pump, which valve means is arranged to open only when the pump has started up, and by adjustment of its flow cross-section seeks to maintain its downstairs pressure at a value (P3) which is predetermined from the specifications of the pipe system and said device, but gives priority to restrict its flow cross-section so that counterpressure of the pump does not fall below a given minimum value (P2) determined from the characteristic properties of the pump. The valve means is a regulating valve (25) operating in accordance with this functional principle.

  • Publication number: 20040011402
Abstract: An arrangement in a fire water system, especially for an offshore platform, wherein the system comprises one or more fire water pumps (6) connected through a pipe system (2-5) to a number of deluge valves (812) coupled to associate with pipe stretches leading to respective fire sections. The arrangement comprises a distribution manifold (2) having an upstream side (3) which is in open connection with the fire water pumps (6) and with a buffer tank (7) for water, and having a downstream side (4) connected to the deluge valves (12) which are coupled to said pipe stretches, and there is also provided a gas supply means (10) connected to the buffer tank (7) and having a pressure which is sufficient to see to it that the water pressure at the upstream side of the distribution manifold does not sink below a predetermined level after activation of the deluge valves (12).

  • Patent number: 6516825
Abstract: A method and a valve apparatus for counteracting harmful pressure pulses caused by rapid retardation of a liquid in a hydraulic system comprising a pump for the supply of liquid to a conduit stretch containing a non-liquid-filled volume. The valve apparatus comprises a main valve having an inlet connected to a reservoir for pressurised gas, a first valve chamber connected in use to said volume, and a regulating unit for controlling the supply of pressurised gas to the first chamber.
