  • Patent number: 4149350
Abstract: An arrangement for anchoring a mounting element in a hole of a masonry and the like with the use of binding material has a sleeve-shaped mounting element insertable in the hole and having an axis and an inner bore adapted to receive therein a threaded element, a plurality of retaining members arranged on the mounting element for fixing the latter in the hole, which retaining members extend transversely to the axis of the sleeve-shaped element and taper towards a wall of the hole, and a flange arranged at a trailing end of the mounting element so as to close a hole and having an opening for mounting a feeding device, feeding the binding material into the hole. The retaining members have throughgoing apertures through which the binding material flows so as to reliably fill the hole. The retaining members are preferably wedge-shaped. The feeding device may be inserted not only in the opening of the flange but also directly in the inner bore of the mounting element.

  • Patent number: 4149467
Abstract: An adjustable time fuse includes an electrolytic cell with the anode and cathode connectible in two circuits with opposite polarity and a battery connected in the circuits. One of the circuits causes an element of the electrolyte to be deposited on one of the electrodes to activate the cell and the other causes the same element to be removed from the electrode. When this element is completely removed, the internal resistance of the cell increases rapidly. This increase in resistance triggers a thyristor to allow a condenser to discharge through a primer to produce the desired action.

  • Patent number: 4148259
Abstract: A spherical convex pusher plate member is positioned intermediate the rear end of a subcaliber tubular projectile and the forward section of a cup shaped sabot carrier to improve the ballistic performance of the projectile by reduction of a parasitic weight and faster separation of the carrier after launch. Propellant gas pressures acting on the convex spherical section of the pusher plate causes deflection thereof sufficient to force the sabot to loosen from the projectile to provide an improvement in projectile velocity.

  • Patent number: 4148256
Abstract: To prevent splashing off of water and ink emulsion from rollers in the inking system due to feedback of wetting water to the inking system, a roller of the inking system, preferably an ink supply roller accepting ink from a ductor roller, is associated with a return roller which accepts the water-ink emulsion, and a stripping arrangement which strips off that emulsion from the return roller returns the emulsion to the ink well or ink trough of the ink supply system. The stripping element may be the ductor roller itself, rotating in counter direction to rotation of the return roller, intermediate rollers in counter-rotation with respect to the ductor roller, or doctor blades, or the like.

  • Patent number: 4147152
Abstract: A projectile is propelled from the gun when a valve that controls the gas storage chamber of the gun is momentarily unseated, thereby admitting a short burst or charge of gas into the space immediately behind the projectile. The barrel that confines and controls the projectile during its movement out of the gun is itself driven rearwardly by spring action to accomplish unseating of the valve through an actuating stem at the rear of the barrel, and during such rearward movement of the barrel, the projectile is carried therewith so as to reduce the volume of the space behind the projectile in which the gas may expand before acting upon the projectile.

  • Patent number: 4146684
Abstract: An electrochemical storage cell or battery based on an alkali metal and sulfur having at least one anode chamber and at least one cathode chamber separated from each other by an ion-conducting solid electrolyte, and felt with course-pores and/or low electric conductivity and felt with fine-pores and/or higher electric conductivity located in the cathode chamber, with the felt of coarse-pores and/or low conductivity disposed near the solid electrolyte and the felt of fine-pores and/or higher conductivity disposed further away from the solid electrolyte. This permits rapid and more complete recharging of the cell for covering peak loads in electrical networks.

  • Patent number: 4143959
Abstract: An X-ray film processor requiring access only on its top and on one side in order to both receive undeveloped film and deliver developed negatives. The processor takes in the film by moving it in a horizontal direction over the tanks of solution and the drying area. It then reverses the horizontal direction of the film to pass it through the usual solutions and drier. The film finds its way to a receptacle located below the processing portion of the apparatus and with an opening facing the same direction as the processor's inlet. The containers of solutions and the drier determine the space required for the processor.

  • Patent number: 4143297
Abstract: Electroluminescent information display panels are disclosed suitable for uses extending from simple numeric displays to color TV panels. The new panel consists of an unpatterned layer of electroluminescent powder particles of thickness equal to that of one particle embedded in a high-dielectric resin with a transparent front electrode and a black back electrode to increase visual contrast. The operating voltage is low enough to permit use of common transistors for addressing the lighting segments of the display and a new resonant circuit is provided for this purpose. The new electrode pattern is deposited on the black back layer of the panel and the electrical circuits are placed on a second rear substrate and connected to the front plate. The electrical circuits may consist of coextensive matrices of interconnected thin-film transistors driven from the side by shift registers and line storage registers.

  • Patent number: 4141657
Abstract: A dual shell rotational blending apparatus which is formed by two hollow cylindrical leg sections joined at one end to form a closed apex portion. One cylindrical leg section has a mean length greater than the other leg section such that as the unit is rotated and the apex portion reaches the uppermost position, the contents therein separate in unequal portions. The separation of the contents in unequal portions forces a lateral cross flow of material as rotation continues.

  • Patent number: 4140882
Abstract: A telephone system usable for example in hotels or the like and in which each of a plurality of telephone sets is equipped with a special status indicator or signal light as well as the usual bell, the system being characterized in that the indicator is automatically excited without ringing the bell by voltages applied from the ring generator whose output signal is connected across the tip and ring leads of a telephone line when the latter is placed in a special status (message waiting) by a status signal in the control unit. The ring generator is constructed to produce special status indicator excitation voltages during the "bell silent" intervals of its output signal, and the indicator is periodically actuated by connecting that output signal across the tip and ring leads of telephone sets, which are in the special status, during at least a portion of such intervals.

  • Patent number: 4140742
Abstract: A method for forming a gasket for a container closure. In the method, a dispersion of a finely powdered plastic resin in a fluid carrier is prepared and the viscosity of the dispersion is adjusted to provide desirable flow characteristics. The resin is not associated in the dispersion with a plasticizer. An annulus of the dispersion is applied to a container closure. The applied annulus of the dispersion is then subjected to an elevated temperature for a sufficient time to remove the carrier and to fuse the thermoplastic resin particles which are united to form a resilent seal.

  • Patent number: 4140901
Abstract: The apparatus includes a photoelectric sensor associated with a predetermined zone of a hollow glass article to be examined for faults. During one testing operation, the photoelectric sensor successively detects all faults in that zone and generates for each a fault signal whose value is dependent upon the characteristics of the fault. The fault signals are applied to a threshold circuit which generates an output signal only when the fault-signal value exceeds a threshold-signal level. The setting-up procedure involves performing at least one preliminary testing operation upon a preselected sample or standard article having acceptable faults. Each threshold-circuit output signal automatically results in a circuit adjustment which reduces by a predetermined amount the extent to which the respective fault-signal value exceeds the threshold-signal level.
