Publication number: 20110074528Abstract: A radio frequency circuit structure for transmitting radio signals includes a lower guide portion having a plurality of photocurable layers deposited on a substrate and an upper guide portion interfacing with the lower guide portion to define a guiding geometry. The upper guide portion may also include a plurality of photocurable layers deposited on a second substrate. A method for fabricating the radio frequency circuit structure includes depositing the plurality of photocurable layers on the substrate. A portion of each photocurable layer of the plurality of photocurable layers is exposed to ultraviolet light to form a latent image. The plurality of photocurable layers is developed to remove the portions not exposed to ultraviolet light to form a guide portion. The guide portion may be metalized and closed to form a guiding geometry. A lower guide portion may be closed by an upper guide portion formed in substantially the same manner as the lower guide portion.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 30, 2009Publication date: March 31, 2011Applicant: Alcatel-Lucent USA Inc.Inventors: Flavio Pardo, Robert F. Patent number: 7580175Abstract: A representative embodiment of the invention provides an infrared (IR) detector having a movable plate supported at an offset distance from a substrate by a suspension arm. In response to a temperature difference between the plate and the substrate generated by the incident IR radiation, the suspension arm deforms and changes the offset distance for the plate. In one embodiment, the suspension arm has three rod-shaped bimorph transducers that lie within a plane that is parallel to the substrate. The transducers are also parallel to one another, with the transducer that is attached to an anchor of the suspension arm being located between the two transducers that are attached to the plate.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 2007Date of Patent: August 25, 2009Assignee: Alcatel-Lucent USA Inc.Inventors: Vladimir Anatolyevich Aksyuk, Cristian A. Patent number: 7573723Abstract: Polyimide is used as a spacer that also bonds together the elements that it is spacing apart. This is achieved by constructing the spacer on at least one of the wafers as is conventionally done, except that prior to performing the final curing of the polyimide precursor to form the final polyimide, the elements are aligned in a bonder and placed in contact with a pressure of 40 grams per square millimeter at a temperature slightly higher than the soft-bake temperature, as specified by the manufacturer of the polyimide precursor, for few minutes to promote tackiness. This holds the elements together, and the combined structure is then baked to fully cure the polyimide precursor into polyimide and complete the bonding.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 2003Date of Patent: August 11, 2009Assignee: Alcatel-Lucent USA Inc.Inventors: Victor Alexander Lifton, Victor Manuel Lubecke, Flavio Pardo

Patent number: 7564138Abstract: Targeted heating is employed to essentially only heat a material that is used as a spacer and to bond a first chip of a flip-chip to a second chip thereof and not the rest of the chips. In order to heat only the spacer-bonding material, one or more wires are located within, or adjacent to, the spacer-bonding material, and an electrical current is passed through the one or more wires causing them to heat. At the time of final bonding the heat generated by the one or more wires causes the spacer-bonding material to heat to its final curing temperature.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 2004Date of Patent: July 21, 2009Assignee: Alcatel-Lucent USA Inc.Inventors: Flavio Pardo, Maria Elina Simon

Publication number: 20090040008Abstract: A representative embodiment of the invention provides a thermal actuator for a MEMS-based relay switch. The thermal actuator has an “active” arm that is movably mounted on a substrate. The “active” arm has (i) a thermal expansion layer and (ii) a resistive heater that is electrically isolated from the thermal expansion layer. The thermal expansion layer is adapted to expand in response to a temperature change induced by a control current flowing through the resistive heater, thereby bending the “active” arm and moving that arm with respect to the substrate. Due to the fact that mechanical and electrical characteristics of the “active” arm are primarily controlled by the thermal expansion layer and the resistive heater, respectively, those characteristics can be optimized independently to obtain better operating characteristics for MEMS-based relay switches of the invention compared to those attained in the prior art.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 10, 2007Publication date: February 12, 2009Applicant: LUCENT TECHNOLOGIES INC.Inventors: Vladimir Anatolyevich Aksyuk, Flavio Pardo, Maria Elina Simon
