  • Patent number: 4682656
Abstract: A tubing retrievable completion assembly includes a surface-controllable, safety control valve interposed between the production tubing string and a production seal unit. A gas-lift safety valve is carried within a side pocket mandrel connected in the upper production string. The upper production string, production flow safety valve and gas-lift safety valve are run in and removed as a single unit from a single-bore hanger packer which is releasably anchored within the well casing. Separate concentric flow passages are provided through the packer bore for the upward flow of formation fluid through a production stinger conduit which extends through the packer bore, and for downward flow of lift gas through the annulus between the packer bore and the stinger conduit. The completion assembly is locked into place below the hanger packer by a latch having fixed and movable collets.

  • Patent number: 4667736
Abstract: A pilot valve system for a subsurface safety valve operated by control fluid pressure from the surface including a pilot valve connected with the control fluid line to the subsurface safety valve and into the well production string immediately above the safety valve to bypass the control fluid pressure directly into the tubing string and dump the control fluid pressure from the subsurface safety valve into the tubing string directly above the valve to minimize the time delay between control fluid pressure reduction and the safety valve closure. Three embodiments of the pilot valve are disclosed. One embodiment is operable by electrical energy from the surface. The other embodiments are operable by acoustic energy and radio waves, respectively. Also disclosed is a minimum backlash latch assembly for releasably locking the pilot valve, or other well tools, along a well bore in a receptacle such as a side pocket mandrel.

  • Patent number: 4373583
Abstract: A test system for wells which may be utilized in any well having a landing nipple therein. A pressure recording instrument is run in on a locking mandrel and a closing tool is provided which cooperates with a valve and moves it from open to closed position. With the closing prong engaged with the valve member and the valve in open position a small diameter extension on the prong is positioned opposite the ports in the valve to provide a large flow area.

  • Patent number: 4086935
Abstract: A remote-controlled tubing safety valve having a check valve and a remotely controlled valve member operator movable between two positions. When the valve member operator is in a first position the check valve is maintained open. When the valve member operator is in a second position it does not interfere with the operation of the check valve. This abstract is neither intended to define the invention of the application which, of course, is measured by the claims, nor is it intended to be limiting as to the scope of the invention in any way.
