Patent number: 10175055Abstract: The invention relates to a navigation method and to a navigation device. In the navigation method, the actual movement of the navigation device and thus of the user of the navigation device is detected. In order for a prescribed destination to be reached, navigation instructions are output by the navigation device. Signals that reflect the actual geometry of the surroundings can be transmitted to the navigation device by a device for detecting the surroundings. If it is recognized that output navigation instructions have not been followed, then the signals that reflect the geometry of the surroundings are detected. Based on the difference between the actual movement and the movement prescribed by the instructions, alternative navigation instructions are determined. In comparison to the originally suggested navigation instructions, the alternative navigation instructions constitute a confirmation in the direction of movement suggested by the original navigation instructions.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 2015Date of Patent: January 8, 2019Assignee: ELEKTROBIT AUTOMOTIVE GmbHInventors: Thomas Mayrhofer, Florian Bartels, Heinz Grotter

Patent number: 9989367Abstract: A technique is described for providing travel information for route segments repeatedly covered by a vehicle, wherein the travel information is indicative of map data changes extractable from map data update information. A method aspect comprises the steps of determining whether the vehicle is likely to travel along repeatedly covered route segments; selecting map data changes that are associated with the repeatedly covered route segments the vehicle is likely to travel; and generating travel information on basis of the selected map data changes and providing the travel information to a driver. Provided are also a computer program product and a device implementing the described method.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 2014Date of Patent: June 5, 2018Assignee: ELEKTROBIT AUTOMOTIVE GmbHInventors: Florian Bartels, Thomas Mayrhofer

Patent number: 9671235Abstract: A method for operating a navigation device. The navigation device carries out a position determination on the basis of received signals. In parallel, another position determination is carried out on the basis of signals from inertial sensors. These two determined positions are compared. If these two determined positions differ by more than a predetermined amount, which has been defined by a predetermined limit value, an error value is recognized. If an impermissible deviation is recognized, then especially the direction of movement, the speed differences and the position changes are taken into account. When the error value is recognized, shaded areas in the surroundings of the vehicle are determined and associated with the determined momentary position, as a result of which an association with a lane level is carried out.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2015Date of Patent: June 6, 2017Assignee: Elektrobit Automotive GmbHInventor: Florian Bartels

Patent number: 8868333Abstract: A technique for calculating a location of a first vehicle is described. A method implementation of this technique comprises the steps of detecting, from the perspective of the first vehicle, a movement of a second vehicle relative to the first vehicle, determining, for the time of the relative movement, a location of the second vehicle based on the detected relative movement by matching the detected movement of the second vehicle against map data, measuring, for the time of the relative movement, a distance between the first and second vehicles, and calculating the location of the first vehicle based on the measured distance and the determined location of the second vehicle. The technique also comprises an apparatus, a computer program product, and a vehicle navigation system.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 2012Date of Patent: October 21, 2014Assignee: Elektrobit Automotive GmbHInventor: Florian Bartels

Publication number: 20140148995Abstract: A technique for assisting driving a vehicle and for learning at least one distance between first and second distinctive marks on or at a road is disclosed. In method aspects, a first method comprises the steps of identifying the first distinctive mark on or at a road on which the vehicle is travelling, retrieving, from a database, a distance between the first distinctive mark and the second distinctive mark, calculating, based on a location of the vehicle relative to the first distinctive mark, the relative distance of the vehicle to the second distinctive mark taking into account the distance between the first and second distinctive marks, and assisting the driving of the vehicle based on the calculated relative distance. A second method comprises the steps of identifying the first and second distinctive marks, calculating the distance between the first and second distinctive marks, and storing the distance between the first and second distinctive marks.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 26, 2013Publication date: May 29, 2014Applicant: ELEKTROBIT AUTOMOTIVE GMBHInventor: Florian Bartels
