The piece of food may be provided on a punch arranged below a cutting unit, which may be moved relative to the cutting unit and/or moved relative to the punch so that the piece of food is pressed from below through the cutting unit and the piece of food is thereby cut into a plurality of smaller pieces disposed next to one another. The plurality of smaller pieces may be lifted using a gripper. The piece of food can be pressed from above through the cutting unit.
