In the ascertaining, an angle of inclination of the headlamp to be adjusted for the optimal illumination of the roadway in front of the vehicle is ascertained using the topography-signal. In the providing, an actuating-signal is provided for an adjustment mechanism of the headlamp using the ascertained-angle of inclination to tilt the headlamp to the ascertained-angle of inclination so that the light level of the headlamp is adjustable.
