  • Patent number: 7463731
Abstract: A dual mode packet phone is provided, comprising a first connector to connect the phone with a data network, and a second connector to connect the phone with a backup network. The phone automatically switches between the data and backup networks in the event that the data network fails to process the call in a timely manner. In a preferred embodiment, the phone is a Voice-over-IP phone, and comprises a voice processing unit, a control unit, a line interface, a data network interface, and a backup switch.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: December 9, 2008
    Assignee: Siemens Communications, Inc.
Inventors: William J. Beyda, Florin Gheorghiu
  • Patent number: 7248880
Abstract: A system, method, apparatus, means, and computer program code for determining a location of a device connected to a network. According to some embodiments of the present invention, a device, such as an IP enabled or compliant telephone, may receive, detect, or otherwise actively or passively determine a location identifier. The location identifier may be associated with a geographic location of the device. The device may then provide data indicative of the location identifier to another device, such as a network manager device, server, computer, etc. In some embodiments, the device may determine its geographic location after receiving a request for data indicative of its geographic location. In other embodiments, the device may provide data indicative of its geographic location each time it receives, detects or otherwise determines its geographic location.

  • Patent number: 5634035
Abstract: By handling initial processing of HDLC frames, an HDLC engine can free up a server microprocessor that would otherwise be tasked to respond to incoming frames. Sharing a memory with the microprocessor, the engine periodically accesses an address status table in the memory to retrieve data in order to process received frames based on the status of the frame address.

  • Patent number: 5524243
Abstract: Method and apparatus for rapidly configuring several field programmable gate arrays ("CFPGAs"), some of which FPGAs are of different sizes. In accordance with the present invention, the configuration is provided to each FPGA in parallel, on a bit-wise basis. Further, the different sizes of FPGA are accommodated by utilizing dummy bits in the configuration data. Still further, the configuration process can be completed at different times, i.e., the completion times of the configuration process can be staggered, by use of dummy bits in the configuration data.
