  • Patent number: 5604093
Abstract: A new human B lymphotropic virus, also designated human herpesvirus-6, has been isolated. DNA, molecular clones, antigenic viral proteins and antibodies having specificity to the new virus have been prepared. Various utilities of the new virus and products derived therefrom have been described.

    Filed: February 22, 1995
Date of Patent: February 18, 1997
Assignee: The Government of the United States of America, as represented by the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services
Inventors: Syed Z. Salahuddin, Dharam V. Ablashi, Steven F. Josephs, Carl W. Saxinger, Flossie Wong-Staal, Robert C. Gallo
  • Patent number: 5510238
Abstract: Antigenic proteins may be expressed in bacteria by use of vectors having inserted therein DNA fragments from an envelope gene. The DNA fragments employed in the example are coding sequences found in the HTLV-I envelope gene. The bacteria used was E. coli. The antigenic proteins are useful in identifying antibodies to the organisms from which the DNA fragments were originally obtained.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 5278042
Abstract: A method for evaluating the inhibitory effect of a substance on tat-protein TAR RNA binding is described. A test system for determining the association of tat-protein with TAR RNA is also included within the scope of the invention.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 6, 1989
Date of Patent: January 11, 1994

  • Patent number: 5223423
Abstract: A complete genomic clone of HIV-2 designated HIV-2.sub.SBL/ISY was cloned from DNA of the neoplastic human cell line HUT78 infected with the HIV-2.sub.SBL6669 viral isolate. The clone was sequenced and the sequence compared with those of known HIV-2 isolates. The invention is advantageous for it provides an animal model for the study of HIV infection in man.

  • Patent number: 4963497
Abstract: The present invention is the isolation and purification of a newly discovered gene of the AIDS virus, HTLV-III, which encodes a protein which is immunogenic and recognized by sera of some HTLV-III seropositive people. Furthermore, the gene is highly conserved among all known HTLV-III isolates and exhibits a polymorphism at the 3' end which distinguishes molecular clones of the HTLV-III cell line from viral genomes of related viruses (i.e., other HTLV-III isolates, LAV, ARV, etc.).
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 20, 1986
Date of Patent: October 16, 1990
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Department of Health and Human Services
Inventors: Flossie Wong-Staal, Pranab K. Chanda, John Ghrayeb
  • Patent number: 4772547
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to synthetic peptides derived from the conserved region of the HTLVIII envelope proteins. These peptides are useful as reagents for immunoassays for detection of AIDS antibodies, as components of immunogenic compositions useful as vaccines, and for the production of anti-bodies selective to said envelope protein and methods for detecting the presence of AIDS antibodies in biological fluid samples.
