  • Patent number: 7832283
Abstract: Fluid flow apparatus, such as a fluid flow meter, a fluid mixing device or a fluid dispersing device, includes a fluid displacement member (40) mounted in a conduit (20) and having a sloped exterior wall (48) forming a periphery on the member for deflecting the fluid to flow through a region of progressively decreasing area defined between the periphery of the member and the interior surface of the conduit. The displacement member is a hollow frustum (42) terminating at the plane of its outer peripheral edge (46) and accommodating flow measurements at or adjacent the axis of the conduit at or adjacent the plane of the peripheral edge of the displacement member.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 29, 2006
Date of Patent: November 16, 2010
    Assignee: McCrometer, Inc.
Inventors: Robert J. W. Peters, Floyd McCall, Joyann Gongaware, legal representative

  • Patent number: 7500405
Abstract: Fluid flow apparatus, such as a fluid flow meter, a fluid mixing device or a fluid dispersing device, includes a fluid displacement member removeably mounted in a conduit and a pipe or tube extending through the wall of the conduit and having a portion extending through the displacement member to its downstream face for sensing flow conditions at the axis of the conduit downstream of the displacement member. The displacement member is removeably and replaceably mounted on the pipe or tube so that one displacement member can be replaced by one or more displacement members and thereby accommodate a very broad range of flows of various fluids, fluid suspensions and slurries.

  • Patent number: 5363699
Abstract: Highly reliable measurements of the fluid and/or fluid flow in a conduit are obtained by insertion within the conduit, upstream of a fluid measuring or sampling device, of a fluid flow straigntening and displacement apparatus which serves to stabilize, homogenize and condition the fluid flow and form at the device a uniform, axially centered, axially symmetrical, well defined and accurately measurable flow profile of large means flow diameter. The flow straightening and fluid displacement apparatus comprises, in sequence in the direction of fluid flow, a first swirl mitigating and flow straightening device, a fluid displacement member comprised of two oppositely facing frustums jointed at their larger ends and mounted coaxially within the conduit, and a second flow straightening device. Advantageous combinations of the flow straightening and fluid displacement apparatus with known measuring and sampling devices are provided.

  • Patent number: 4812049
Abstract: An improved device for mixing and/or dispersing fluids, and useful as a component of fuel injectors, carburetors, oil burners, de-superheaters and gas coolers, and in the production of foams and emulsions.

  • Patent number: 4638672
Abstract: A fluid flowmeter is disclosed herein which includes a fluid displacement member positioned in the fluid flow to substantially linearize the velocity profile associated therewith. In one form of the invention the pressure differential in the fluid existing across the fluid displacement member is advantageously exploited, and several embodiments thereof are disclosed. In another form of the invention the fluid displacement member is utilized to produce trailing vortices.
