    Abstract: A video playback device includes a controller and an on-screen display processor for displaying icons on a display representing all of the playback control functions of the video playback device. A cursor for selecting the desired playback control function is controlled by cursor movement keys on a remote control unit. The controller is also able to apply control signals selected by the remote control unit to an auxiliary video playback device connected to the video playback device.
