  • Patent number: 9856621
Abstract: Method for construction of a wind turbine generator on a slip formed concrete on a construction/deployment dry dock barge and delivery of WTG and foundation to the installation site as a complete unit. A split hull hydraulic dump scow facilitates the slip form construction and deployment of the slip-formed gravity anchor(s). The barge is sunk as a dry dock to a draft that permits the WTG/WTG foundation to be floated off. The free floating WTG foundation is ballasted with sea water to its operating draft. The tension legs from the gravity anchors are attached to the WTG foundation. The sea water is then removed from the WTG foundation. The gravity anchor(s) is constructed from slip formed concrete on a split hull hydraulic dump scow and deployed to the installation site, with tension legs attached for deployment and attachment to the WTG platform.

  • Publication number: 20140248091
Abstract: Method for installation of a wind turbine generator on a tension leg platform/spar (WTG foundation) using gravity anchors or suction anchors. A concrete WTG foundation is built with the ‘slip form’ method, a combination construction/deployment barge (barge) allows the WTG and WTG foundation to be delivered to the installation site as a complete unit and a split hull hydraulic dump scow facilitates the slip form construction and deployment of the gravity anchors. The barge is sunk as a dry dock to a draft that permits the WTG/WTG foundation to be floated off. The free floating WTG foundation is ballasted with sea water to its operating draft with 5 feet of freeboard. The tension legs from the gravity anchors are attached to the WTG foundation and snugged with equal tension. The sea water is then removed from the WTG foundation. This process tightens the tension legs to their design loads. The WTG/WTG foundation maintains a relatively large water plane and a 5 foot freeboard.

  • Patent number: 5488918
Abstract: A barge for the commercial shipping of cargo along an inland waterway having an economically optimized bow, a stern, elongated sidewalls extending between the bow and the stern, and a bottom interconnecting the bow, stern and sidewalls. The bow has a profile within a longitudinal centerline plane of symmetry defined by a fullness which is defined by a block coefficient. The bow also has a corresponding radius within the longitudinal centerline plane. The fullness and the radius of the bow are optimized for economic performance of the barge, which is dependent upon revenue generated by shipping cargo in the barge along a waterway, fuel costs associated with overcoming resistance to propel the barge along a waterway, and maintenance and repair costs associated with propelling the barge along a waterway. The barge has a block coefficient in the range of about 0.96 to about 0.988, with a corresponding radius ranging from about 10' to about 22'.

  • Patent number: 4297961
Abstract: A crane barge mounting a boom crane aft of its longitudinal center of flotation is provided with a plurality of box-type outrigger barges coupled at its sides to limit list and trim of the crane barge and so protect the crane boom from collapse. The outrigger mounting structure for each outrigger barge is comprised of a pair of removable spaced-apart parallel beams extending horizontally from moment-resisting connections at beam seats on the edge of the crane barge deck to structural hinge or pivot mount connections over the transverse center of flotation of the outrigger barge, spacing the outrigger and crane barges by such distance as to avoid contact of their sides on listing of the crane barge, so that the deck of the outrigger barge may provide a level working surface. Each outrigger barge is so ballasted that the mounting bores for the beams on the beam seat and on the pivot mount are at the same level, when the crane is unloaded, providing easy insertion and removal of connector pins.
