Patent number: 10875685Abstract: In various embodiments, a container lid with a castellated cork seal includes a plurality undulating u-shaped ridges that form peaks and troughs throughout a channel. The undulating u-shaped ridges throughout the channel may provide a surface for receiving a bottom of a separate container in a stacked configuration. In certain embodiments, when the lid is secured on top of a container, the u-shaped ridges protrude downwardly into the container for providing cantilevered support. In particular embodiments, the exemplary container lid includes detachable tear strips along a side wall of the container lid. Removing the tear strips allows access to one or more lift tabs for applying upward leverage to the exemplary container lid for removing the lid from a container.Type: GrantFiled: September 7, 2018Date of Patent: December 29, 2020Assignee: BWAY CorporationInventors: Frano Luburic, Forrest A. Burney, Christopher James Lung

Patent number: 8181819Abstract: A lid for a container is disclosed that has a series of seals. The first seal is a cork seal mechanism that is forced against the container interior at a top portion of the container. The second seal is created by at least two ribs that produce a spring-like force against the container. An additional stretch fit seal can be incorporated into the lid. A tear strip can also be incorporated into the lid with windows immediately above the tear strip, thereby forming slits in the skirt to aid in removal of the lid.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 2008Date of Patent: May 22, 2012Assignee: BWAY CorporationInventors: Forrest A. Burney, Charles Watling

Patent number: 8056758Abstract: A rectangular container and cover are disclosed. The container and cover have complimentary latching feature. An inner cover skirt is offset inward toward the cover interior at each corner. The offset is sufficient to permit use of a moveable mold tooling to form each of the corners of the cover. This allows full formation of latching hooks extending around the entire interior of the skirt, such that when the cover is placed on the container the cover latching hooks engage with container latching ribs to secure the cover on the container. A tear strip is also disclosed, the removal of which leaves residual flaps at each sidewall intersection and at about the lateral center of each sidewall. A portion of the cover skirt remains affixed to the container when the tear strip is removed.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 2007Date of Patent: November 15, 2011Assignee: BWAY CorporationInventor: Forrest A. Burney

Publication number: 20110170371Abstract: The present invention is directed toward a novel container system that is designed to hold and store liquids, such as for example, paints, stains, and various other coatings. The container system generally includes a base member, a shelf that is contained within the base member, and a lid. The shelf is provided with the base member and is designed to accept an application device, such as for example a paint roller. A lid is also provided with the container so that a fluid may be provided and stored as part of an all-inclusive delivery system.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 12, 2010Publication date: July 14, 2011Applicant: The Sherwin-Williams CompanyInventors: Adam J.
