    Abstract: An apparatus for performing assessments of field of vision that is portable, does not require the patient to adopt a particular posture or position relative to the testing device and may be operated so as to require minimal active responses from the patient is disclosed. The invention includes a patch, cover, or other device designed to occlude from ambient light and visually stimulate the subject eye. The interior of the patch facing the occluded eye includes an array of light sources, such as LEDs or LCD pixels, selective and sequential illumination of each source being controlled electrically by the practitioner, either manually or via a computer controller. The close proximity of the light sources to the eye being tested also minimizes anomalous results arising from poor visual acuity.

    Abstract: A non-piercing fastening device employing generally "V"-shaped clips is disclosed. The device contains a magazine channel into which one leg of each clip may be fitted and thereby snapped into place. The channel and its associated vertical walls additionally cause the vertices of the clips to act as a stop for papers or other objects to be fastened, enhancing the uniformity of the edges of the fastened papers. A rotating cam whose surface contacts substantially the entire length of the free leg of each clip is included to provide more constant pressure along and even crimping of the clip legs. The notched cam surface reduces the possibility of concurrently crimping multiple clips, and the cam can be adjusted automatically relative to the magazine's forwardmost clip to accommodate materials of varying thicknesses.

    Abstract: Apparatus and methods for relaxing accommodation of an eye undergoing examination or other optical or medical procedures while concurrently permitting and facilitating positioning of the subject eye. A patch, cover, or other device designed to occlude and visually stimulate the eye opposite the subject eye includes multiple light sources facing the occluded eye. The practitioner illuminates a selected one (or ones) of the light sources within the patch and directs the patient to fixate on the source. As the occluded eye moves to fixate on the illuminated source, the subject eye follows the movement, thereby repositioning itself. Occluding the eye causes the image seen by it to appear to be at infinity, rather than nearby, causing the ocular muscles of both eyes to relax.
