Abstract: An improved window construction including a combination metal/wood support frame for a double hung metal window sash, the metal window sash being provided with side channels for reception of counterbalance springs therein. A screw-threaded bow adjuster is provided which is usable for installing the combination wood/metal frame in the house framing for eliminating any bow therebetween to reduce heat losses therethrough. A wood sash liner/fascia is provided for covering the metal window to give same the over-all appearance of a window made entirely of wood. The wood sash liner/fascia preferably being provided with a plurality of muntins thereacross which are joined with tongue and groove type joints. The top horizontal bar of the bottom window being provided with a lock covering recess and the lower horizontal bar thereof having hand-recess cut-outs.

Abstract: Right and left hand casement windows employ a simple and compact operating linkage which can be installed either to the right or to the left of a center mounted gear drive, thus accomplishing universal operation of left or right hand windows through a structurally identical linkage. Locking tabs provided on an operator link of the mechanism coact in right or left hand mode of operation with locking projections on a stabilizer link to assure positive and secure closing of the window even in cases where the primary jamb-mounted window sash latch is unfastened.

Abstract: A positive acting non-handed flush mounted fastener or lock ideally suited to casement windows and other swinging closures is provided. No parts project into the room to interfere with window hangings and when the sash or other closure is locked, no parts project into the light or sight line. A compound locking action employing a pivoted locking lever, a latch connected with the locking lever through a toggle and toggle link, and a cam track for the toggle link and latch provided in a casing for the lock develops great force to draw in or release a sash or other closure.
