  • Publication number: 20140081075
Abstract: A urinary control device for sealing off at a neck and along the inside wall of a bladder to prevent leaking and dislodging of the device from within the bladder is disclosed. The device includes an inner tubular member. The device also includes an expandable sealing member. A deployable stiffening member is positioned within the expandable sealing member. The stiffening member expands within the expandable sealing member to erect and shape the expandable sealing member. The deployable stiffening member strengthens the expandable sealing member, retaining the device within the bladder and sealing off the bladder against leaking.

  • Patent number: 6527755
Abstract: A feces control device includes a tubular member in which an inflatable balloon is positioned on one interior sidewall for closing the passageway to movement of feces when the balloon is expanded and allowing flow when the balloon is contracted against the sidewall to which it is attached. A second balloon on the inner end of the tubular member when inflated presses against the inner end of an umbrella mounted on the inner end of the tubular member thereby expanding the umbrella to a radially outwardly and forwardly extending sealing position in the stoma or rectum. When the umbrella balloon is deflated, the umbrella memory causes it to collapse to a position coaxial with the tubular member. Inflation passageways in the sidewall of the tubular member may include tube portions for inflating the balloons or removing the device from the rectum.

  • Patent number: 5893826
Abstract: An inflatable cuff used as an artificial sphincter may be used in either of two different ways. The first embodiment involves the cuff encircling the urethra for maintaining pressure on it to occlude it except when voiding the bladder. The second embodiment involves placing a one-way valve in the urethra which is encircled by the inflatable cuff such that the cuff is only inflated when it is desired to void the bladder by opening the valve in the urethra through pressure being applied to the exterior of the valve body. In each embodiment a syringe-type pump bulb is used which is connected to a one-way valve in turn connected to a tube to the inflatable cuff. The bulb side wall has sufficient memory to cause it to return to its normal expanded condition which causes the suction of fluid from the cuff when the manually operated valve is actuated.

  • Patent number: 5800339
Abstract: A disc-like valve element in a control valve includes an outer peripheral ring to which leaf elements are integrally connected having a thickness which increases uniformly from the entire outer peripheral ring to the axial center forming a conical shaped valve element when in a closed condition. The side of the valve element facing the inlet end of the chamber is preferably flat functioning as a funnel to discharge urine when the valve element is moved to an open condition. The increased thickness at the axial center of the valve element is preferably the result of the side of the valve element facing the outlet end of the valve chamber increasing in thickness from the ring laterally inwardly and longitudinally outwardly to maximize flexibility of the leaf elements adjacent the ring and sealing at the axial center.

  • Patent number: 5693001
Abstract: A urine tube extends through a balloon which is inflatable in the neck of a bladder to form a seal around the urine tube. The balloon has a shape corresponding to the shape of the bladder chamber at the urethra orifice to facilitate establishing a seal. A valve is provided on the outlet end of the urine tube and an air tube extends along the substantial length of the urine tube into the balloon. A hypodermic syringe or the like may be inserted into the inlet end of the air tube for inflating the balloon. A hydrogel collar is positioned around the urine tube against the body at the outlet end of the urethra to hold the balloon in tight engagement with the bladder neck at the urethra orifice.

  • Patent number: 4968294
Abstract: A silicone valve is placed in the orifice of the urethra. The valve tube includes a pair of blade valve elements which extend from the valve side wall forwardly and inwardly. The tube includes a bulb portion in the area of the valve elements to provide pressure cavities for urine to accumulate and apply pressure to the blade elements to maintain them normally closed. Pressure on the opposite sides of the tube walls will open the valve to flow of urine therethrough.
