Abstract: Latching means is provided for retaining a plastic slider in closed position when the slider reaches the closed end of its travel along a zipper. The latching means disclosed is in the form of a detent on the plastic slider which engages with a protrusion on the zipper track to provide the feel of a secure closure and retain the slider in a closed position.

Abstract: A method is disclosed for making end terminations for a plastic reclosable fastener or zipper, which incorporates a stop for the zipper slider wherein the zipper profile is cut apart with a hot knife which forces the melted material into cavities forming the end stops.

Abstract: A foldable plastic slider having a pair of hinged wings that fold downwardly and secured permanently in place to the opposite sides of the slider body to attach it to the plastic reclosable fastener elements when manufacturing a thermoplastic bag. The wings are hinged at the top of the slider body to provide for ease in molding the slider using a simple 2-piece mold.

Abstract: A disposable plastic cup dispenser incorporating a spring for imparting biasing action to a stack of nested cups in the dispenser so as to render the cups available for individual and discrete dispensing thereof. The spring is in a compressed condition and extends intermediate the inner bottom wall surface of the container and the bottom of the lowermost cup of the stack of cups, thereby biasing the stack of cups towards a discharge or dispensing opening formed in the opposite end of the housing through which the endmost cup of the stack partially protrudes.

Abstract: A thermoplastic bag having a flexible top has a stiff strip around the mouth of the bag which when rolled outward bends to hold open the bag.

Abstract: A leakproof plastic reclosable fastener or zipper with slider particularly suited for thermoplastic bags. The zipper is formed by reclosable interlocking rib and groove profile elements on respective strips and the strips each include profiled track structure extending along the length thereof parallel to the rib and groove elements. A straddling slider is positioned on the strips for closing or opening the reclosable fastener elements. The slider includes depending side walls for maintaining the track structure and the rib and groove elements therebetween. The slider also includes separator structure inserted between the track structure but not the rib and groove elements to open the rib and groove elements. The zipper structure is slit or notched locally at the end where the slider goes when the zipper is closed, to allow the rib and groove elements to interlock fully making a leakproof closure.

The novel slider is shaped so that it operates in this fashion on the zipper profile, holding the top open while it presses the bottom together, then presses the top together while the slider passes by.

Abstract: A method of assembling a snapped-together multipart plastic slider with a plastic reclosable fastener on plastic bags is disclosed. The multipart plastic slider includes a separator finger and two side walls mechanically snapped together in place on the plastic bags.

Abstract: An apparatus for the production of a tubular thermoplastic film, and more particularly, a water bath film cooling apparatus for the rapid quenching of an extruded tubular thermoplastic film so as to enhance the speed of cooling thereof, and increase the strength of the film material. Also disclosed is a method of rapidly cooling a thermoplastic film material through the intermediary of a water bath, utilizing the inventive cooling apparatus. A predetermined internal pressure is maintained within the tube by a gaseous medium, such as air, which is slightly higher than the external pressure imparted to the film tube by the water bath, so as to enhance the speed of cooling of the film materials and increase the strength of the film by minimizing the premature crystallinity thereof upon extrusion of the film and passage through the cooling apparatus.

Abstract: A tape is made of plastic with high elongation, then is coated on one or both sides with pressure-sensitive adhesive. The adhesive is then coated with a brittle coating material. In use, the tape is manually stretched, causing the brittle coating to crack and separate, exposing the adhesive. The tape is then wrapped around the neck of a bag to effect a closure.

Abstract: A high-strength cross-laminated film with a foam core, particularly a cross-laminated film made by counter-rotating dies, and a method of producing the laminated film. The high-strength cross-laminated tubular film web is produced by counter-rotating dies; which will allow for the orientation of each extruded film layer in a different direction so as to form a cross-laminate, and whereby, concurrently with the extrusion of the molten layers, there is interposed a formed adhesive material polymer between the layers so as to provide a weak bonding or adherence therebetween while imparting a thick feel to the laminated film.

Abstract: A waste container that utilizes a clock-timer circuit to actuate an alarm to remind a user to empty the container and prepare the contents for subsequent collection. The clock-timing circuit and signalling means can be an integral part of the container or affixed to the container by an adhesive or any other suitable fastening means. A preferred apparatus comprises a waste container, an audible signalling means, a clock-timer circuit for actuation of the signalling means at a predetermined time corresponding to the interval between trash collection service pick-ups and a housing for mounting the timing circuit and signalling means within. Also furnished is a method for providing a signal to prepare waste materials for collection comprising the steps of setting a clock-timer circuit affixed to a waste container for a predetermined period of time, providing an actuation pulse upon the expiration of the period of time and generating an alarm through the use of a signalling means affixed to the waste container.

Abstract: A draw type bag with two single draw tapes having a front wall and back wall of flexible sheet material joined to each other along edges of the bag. Tubular channels extend along opposed transverse top edges of the front and back walls. The channels define an open mouth for the bag. Each of the channels has openings at the opposite ends of the top edges of the bag. A pair of draw tapes extends through both of the channels. One end of each of the tapes is attached to opposite side edges of the bag beneath the openings in one of the channels and the other end of each of the tapes extends through the openings at the corresponding ends of the other of the channels so that the tapes cross each other in both channels and wrap around the mouth of the bag whereby when the tapes are pulled the mouth of the bag is drawn tightly together.

Abstract: A thermoplastic draw tape bag having a tacky surface on the inside lip of the mouth of the bag and extending around the inner periphery of the lip on the open mouth of the bag, the surface comprising a material having the characteristic of sticking to itself and being adapted to seal the open mouth and hold the bag closed after the draw tape is pulled tight. In one form of the invention, the tacky surface comprises a coating of glycerol mono-oleate. The surface may also comprise a layer of polyvinylidene chloride or a layer of polyisobutylene.
