  • Patent number: 6651333
Abstract: An aluminum based header plate, for a tubular heat exchanger for a motor vehicle, has an external coating on its outer face. An end portion of each heat exchanger tube is received in a corresponding through hole in the header plate. The tube end portions have a predetermined cross section and an external coating, and secured to the header plate by brazing. Each through hole is made by a slitting operation followed by configuration of the through hole within a selected zone of the header plate, this zone being press-formed so as to form in the outer face of the header plate a collar portion in that zone. The internal transverse cross section of each collar portion is substantially identical to the predetermined cross section of the corresponding tube end portion. After the tube has been introduced into the through hole, which extends through the collar portion, there is surface contact between the respective external coatings of the collar portion and of the tube end portion.

  • Patent number: 5873409
Abstract: A header plate has a central portion in which at least one row of holes are formed. The heat exchanger includes tubes which are fitted in these holes, and each hole is made in a press-formed element which comprises at least two raised elements aligned with each other. The respective dimensions of these raised elements are predetermined, and they are adapted to be pierced individually or in combination by means of perforating tools having different characteristic dimensions in at least the direction in which the raised elements are aligned with each other. Tubes of different dimensions in at least this alignment direction can be introduced into the holes.

  • Patent number: 5758721
Abstract: A heat exchanger has a header plate which comprises a substantially flat base wall, which defines over at least part of its periphery a recess for receiving a claw element of a header cover. This recess is bounded on one side by projections formed on an inner face of the base wall, and on another side by a bent-back edge portion, from which retaining lugs extend. These retaining lugs are bent back to secure the header cover in position. The invention is applicable to heat exchangers for motor vehicles.

  • Patent number: 5704423
Abstract: A flat tube for a heat exchanger is disclosed. The flat tube is produced by assembling a main part made of a folded metal strip defining a flat side, two rounded ends and two side portions with two free edges, as well as a secondary part made of a metal strip forming a central portion with two flanged free edges, whereby the secondary part is sandwiched into the main part to form a multichannel tube. The tube may be used in heat exchangers for motor vehicle heating and/or air conditioning systems.

  • Patent number: 5664625
Abstract: A heat exchanger for a heating or cooling circuit of a motor vehicle comprises a header plate with a header cover sealingly secured over it, and a number of tubes extending through the header plate. The outer flanks of the collar portions of the header plate, which surround the ends of the tubes situated at the ends of the row of tubes are joined directly, along an inclined plane, to the peripheral channel in which the peripheral edge portion of the header cover is received. The overall length of the header plate, and therefore that of the heat exchanger as a whole, is thereby reduced.

  • Patent number: 5180005
Abstract: A heat exchanger has a casing formed with two adjacent apertures to which two tubular pipe connections are secured. The apertures in the casing are so configured as to act as one half of a bayonet fitting, the other half of each bayonet fitting being a bayonet end portion fixed to each pipe connection. These bayonet end portions are adapted to be put into a locking position on the apertures, and are provided with base portions which are configured according to the spacing between the two apertures. The base portions have stop means which are arranged to cooperate with each other to lock the end portions in position when both of the latter are in their locking position. The invention is especially applicable to motor vehicle engine oil coolers.

  • Patent number: 5180006
Abstract: A heat exchanger has a casing formed with two adjacent apertures, and two tubular pipe connections are mounted on the casing so as to communicate with these apertures in the latter. The two pipe connection are fixed with respect to a common base plate which is fastened to the casing by snap-fitting means, with the base plate having two orifices which communicate respectively with the two pipe connections and which are arranged to be aligned with the apertures in the casing, a sealing member being interposed between the base plate and the casing. The invention is especially applicable to radiators for cooling motor vehicle engine lubricating oil.
