  • Patent number: 9869789
Abstract: The present disclosure includes a method for monitoring a subsurface formation including disposing an antenna in a horizontal wellbore, the antenna including a plurality of piezoelectric modules. A voltage signal is applied to at least one of the piezoelectric modules to cause the at least one piezoelectric modules to emit seismic energy into the subsurface formation. A resulting signal is received at a receiver. A property of the subsurface formation is determined based, at least in part, on the resulting signal.

  • Publication number: 20170108600
Abstract: Systems and methods for a sea-floor seismic source are provided. The seismic source system includes a housing (102) having an internal cavity (104). The housing is configured to be coupled to a surface by gravity. The system further includes a coupling plate (106) fixed to a base (108) of the internal cavity. The coupling plate is configured to transmit energy through the base of the internal cavity and into the surface. The system also includes an excitation source (110) located in the internal cavity. The excitation source is configured to receive an input signal from a computing system communicatively coupled to the excitation source, and transmit energy to a reactive mass (112) located in the internal cavity and transmit energy to the coupling plate.

  • Patent number: 9470805
Abstract: A seismic survey system for surveying a subsurface. The system includes a volumetric land source buried underground for generating P-waves; a non-volumetric land source buried underground for generating P- and S-waves; plural receivers distributed about the volumetric and non-volumetric land sources and configured to record seismic signals corresponding to the P- and S-waves; and a controller connected to the volumetric land source and the non-volumetric land source and configured to shot them in a given pattern.

  • Publication number: 20150109884
Abstract: A seismic survey system for surveying a subsurface. The system includes a dipole seismic source buried in a well and configured to generate P-waves having a first radiation pattern and to generate S-waves having a second radiation pattern; plural seismic sensors distributed about the dipole seismic source and configured to record seismic signals corresponding to the P- and S-waves; and a controller connected to the dipole seismic source and configured to drive it. A longitudinal axis of the dipole seismic source is inclined with an inclination angle (?) relative to gravity.

  • Patent number: 8973702
Abstract: Seismic wave sources and related methods are provided. A seismic wave source includes a housing, plural pillars and an excitation system. The housing is split in two halves along a plane including a longitudinal axis of the housing. The plural pillars are made of piezoelectric elements and are positioned inside the housing to have one end in contact with a semi-cylindrical middle portion of one half of the housing and another end in contact with a semi-cylindrical middle portion of the other half of the housing. The excitation system connected by wires to the plural pillars and is configured to provide electrical signals to the piezoelectric elements. Upon receiving the electrical signals from the excitation system, the pillars generate forces on the housing thereby generating seismic waves.
