  • Patent number: 9026111
Abstract: Example embodiments provide methods of handling a request for location information for a mobile device attached to a wireless system that supports multiple types of radio access technology. In one embodiment, the mobile device is triggered, by a network element, to send location information without causing the mobile to fall back from a first network of the wireless system to a second network of the wireless system, the first network conforming to a later generation of radio access technology than the second network.

    Assignee: Alcatel Lucent
Inventors: Mike J. Edwards, Frances M. Chin, John M. Gafrick
  • Publication number: 20110294526
Abstract: A Mobile Switching Center (MSC) receives a short message intended for a mobile station. The MSC determines whether the mobile station is registered at the MSC. If not registered, the MSC sends a query message to associated Mobility Management Entities (MMEs). One of the MMEs sends a message to the MSC indicating that the MME is serving the mobile station.

  • Publication number: 20110105117
Abstract: A Mobile Switching Center (MSC) receives a short message service (SMS) message from a mobile station. The MSC checks a link between it and an MME to see if the link is currently set. If the link is not currently set, the mobile station is re-registered at the MSC, which re-established the link between the MSC and the MME. The mobile station will resend the SMS message to the MSC, which now utilizes the re-established link to deliver the SMS message.
