  • Publication number: 20230138757
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer program product are therefore provided for providing syntax-based spatial auditory cues to facilitate user interaction with navigational assistance or at least semi-autonomous vehicle control. Methods may include: receiving an indication of location based information; parsing the location based information into one or more portions of information; classifying the one or more portions of information based on a syntax of one or more words contained in the one or more portions to obtain one or more classified portions of information; determining, for a respective one of the one or more classified portions of information, a communication mode associated with the respective one of the one or more classified portions; and providing for generation of audible communication of the location based information, where the one or more classified portions are communicated according to a respective communication mode associated with the respective one or more classified portions.

  • Patent number: 11277708
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer program product are therefore provided for providing an spatiotemporal auditory cue to a user. Methods may include: providing for generation of an auditory cue; determining a duration of the auditory cue; and providing for generation of a transition portion of the auditory cue having a dynamic virtual source location moving, relative to a user, from a first virtual source location along a trajectory and ending at a second virtual source location, where the transition portion of the auditory cue has a transition portion duration determined by the duration of the auditory cue and as a function of a predefined transition portion duration threshold.

  • Patent number: 11255689
Abstract: Various embodiments of the present invention relate to providing an audible route sequence for guiding a user along a route. A user apparatus determines a user location, distance and directional aspects for one or more waypoint of the route, and a cadence. A distance aspect of a waypoint is a distance between the waypoint and the user location. A directional aspect of a waypoint is the angle between a reference heading and straight line connecting the waypoint to the user location. The cadence is determined based on the distance between consecutive waypoints. The user apparatus determines a route sequence based on the distance and directional aspects for the waypoints and the cadence. The route sequence comprises a sequence of audible pitches that each correspond to a waypoint of the route. The user apparatus causes the route sequence to be audibly provided via a sound device.

  • Publication number: 20210276585
Abstract: An approach is provided for presenting a feedforward cue in a user interface before an upcoming vehicle event occurs. The approach involves retrieving map data covering an upcoming area in which a vehicle is to travel. The approach also involves extracting a feedforward cue from the map data, wherein the feedforward cue preemptively indicates an upcoming vehicle event that can have an effect on an experience that a user has while engaged in a non-driving activity in the vehicle. The approach further involves providing data for presenting the feedforward cue in a user interface before the upcoming vehicle event occurs.

  • Patent number: 10477338
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer program product are therefore provided for providing a navigation user interface. The apparatus may be caused to: receive an indication of location based information for a user; provide for generation of a first auditory cue, where generation of the first auditory cue may include generating an audio cue having a virtual source location using three-dimensional audio effects. Providing for generation of the first auditory cue may include causing the apparatus to: provide for generation of a beginning of the first auditory cue at a first virtual source location; and provide for generation of a transition phase of the first auditory cue moving the virtual source location from the first virtual source location along a trajectory and ending at a second virtual source location, where the second virtual source location is a location positioned between the user and a location identified in the location based information.
