  • Publication number: 20070097914
Abstract: Described herein are mechanisms and methods that facilitate preparation of inter-radio access technology (inter-RAT) and/or inter-frequency handover with respect to a mobile device (user equipment). User equipment can indicate to a network servicing the user equipment that the user equipment desires to perform measurements with respect to a different frequency and/or different technology. Data on the downlink channel can then be scheduled to ensure that data intended for the user equipment is not lost while the user equipment is performing the measurements.

  • Publication number: 20070064639
Abstract: A novel and improved method and apparatus, in a WCDMA communication system (100), for informing a mobile station (101) of a downlink data frame time offset by determining the downlink data frame time offset, and transmitting the downlink data frame time offset via an Active Set Update message transmitted from a cell (102 or 103) to mobile station (101). Once an Active Set Update message is received, the data frame time offset information is provided to a timing block (201) which may determine data frame boundary of each downlink signal. Timing block (201) may then adjust the PN sequence timing corresponding to the downlink signal associated with the data frame time offset such that corresponding data symbols in each data frame are correctly soft combined in a combiner (210).

  • Publication number: 20070064640
Abstract: The structure of a time-multiplexed physical channel is used to time inter-frequency or inter-system search excursions. A mobile station that receives an instruction to perform a search excursion prepares for the search excursion by detecting the first radio frame of a message frame. Transport format combination indicator bits are extracted from the first radio frame and stored. After the search excursion is performed, the mobile station recalls the stored indicator bits and uses the indicator bits to decode other radio frames of the message frame.

  • Publication number: 20070041382
Abstract: Techniques for performing ciphering and re-ordering using a single full sequence number are described. A transmitter ciphers input packets to obtain ciphered packets, with each input packet being ciphered with a full sequence number. The transmitter generates output packets for the ciphered packets, with each output packet including a partial sequence number used for re-ordering and derived from the full sequence number. The full sequence number may be incremented for each input packet or each byte of each packet. The partial sequence number may be used as a sequence number for RLC and may be used for re-ordering, duplicate detection, error correction, and/or other functions. A receiver performs the complementary processing, re-orders received packets based on the partial sequence number included in each packet, and deciphers the received packets using the partial sequence number included in each received packet.

  • Publication number: 20070021120
Abstract: Techniques for performing inter-system handover are described. An Access Gateway (AGW) sends a message requesting handover of a user equipment (UE) from a first radio access network (RAN) to a second RAN. The message is sent to an Inter Access System (inter-AS) Anchor for the first RAN communicating with an SGSN for the second RAN via a Gn interface. The Inter-AS Anchor and SGSN exchange messages via the Gn interface, and the Inter-AS Anchor forwards the messages to the AGW to handover the UE from the first RAN to the second RAN. The SGSN sees the Inter-AS Anchor as another SGSN for the handover and as a GGSN after the handover. This allows the inter-system handover to be achieved with an inter-SGSN SRNS relocation procedure used for handover between two SGSNs, which reduces impact on the SGSN to support the inter-system handover.

  • Publication number: 20060276181
Abstract: A method and apparatus for a communication system provide for fast link setup for a mobile station by transmitting a request message, transmitting an assignment message from the base station to the mobile station, and transmitting a notification message from the base station to a base station controller. The mobile station transmits an indication message to the base station controller indicating a successful completion of acquiring the data packet channel. The base station controller processes the indication message for message integrity and security feature. A portion of the available communication resources at the base station is allocated for an immediate response to the request message for acquiring a data packet channel.

  • Publication number: 20060229102
Abstract: A scheme is provided for indexing and storing radio bearer configurations for a UMTS wireless communication network, such as a UTRAN. A radio network controller maintains a list of radio bearer configurations and an identifier for each configuration. One or more of these configurations and their identifiers are sent to a mobile terminal in the network. The mobile terminal stores these configurations and identifiers for future reference. This enables an on-the-fly configuration scheme in which the network controller can reference a particular stored configuration by its identifier to cause the mobile terminal to use that configuration to setup wireless transmitter and/or receiver. The identifiers may have contiguous values so that the network controller can transmit a range (e.g., starting identifier and ending identifier) to the mobile terminal rather than each identifier. When a configuration is modified or removed, the network controller may reassign identifiers to maintain contiguous values.

  • Publication number: 20060229072
Abstract: A base station in a wireless communications network counts mobile stations receiving broadcast content via multi-user channel. The base station broadcasts a repeating message identifying at least one broadcast content stream and, for each stream, a REGISTER (R) or DO NOT REGISTER (DNR) indicator. Mobile stations periodically re-examine contents of this message. When the indicator is R for a broadcast content stream, mobile stations whose users have elected to receive it send the base station a registration message for that stream. When the number of registered mobile stations reaches a prescribed number, the base station changes the indicator to DNR. When the indicator is DNR for a broadcast content stream, mobile stations refrain from sending any registration message for that broadcast content stream. The base station may institute a recount by resetting the indicator to R.

  • Publication number: 20060223564
Abstract: A system and method for providing high performance dispatch services for a push-to-talk (PTT) communication over a wireless communication network. When a wireless device is powered up, it registers with a server and then transitions to a paging state instead of an idle state. When the wireless device is ready to transmit PTT communications, it sends a message to the server and transitions to a transmission state when a confirmation is received from the server. Once in the transmission state, the wireless device is ready to transmit the PTT communications to the server.

  • Publication number: 20060209902
Abstract: An outer decoder and an inner decoder encode a block of information to be transmitted, to improve protection by adding redundancy. The redundancy permits decoding of the information from less than a complete encoded block of information. Time re-alignment of two transmissions of the same content from two base stations can mitigate the problem of duplicated frames. The user of the subscriber station can experience seamless service without repetition of content, even when handing over to a new cell while receiving a buffer of broadcast content.

  • Publication number: 20060178153
Abstract: Methods, systems and apparatus for dispersing a group of user equipment (UEs) concentrated on a single channel is disclosed. After receiving a disperse command the UEs select a channel, and then select a cell. The channel selection may be performed using a random or pseudorandom function. The cell selection may be performed prior to camping on the cell. Prior to camping the UEs may test the acceptability of a candidate cell and/or may perform a cell reselection. The result of the dispersion is that the UEs are distributed amongst many channels (a, b, c, and d), where reference are found in FIGS. 1A and 1B.

  • Publication number: 20060040645
Abstract: Techniques for efficiently configuring and reconfiguring calls using a set of default configurations and differential encoding are described. At the network side, a configuration to use for communication with a wireless device is initially selected. A default configuration is identified from among a set of default configurations. The differences, if any, between the selected configuration and the default configuration are ascertained. An identity for the default configuration and the differences, if any, are sent to the wireless device to convey the selected configuration. At the wireless device, the message containing the identity for the default configuration is initially received. The default configuration is obtained from a memory based on the identity. A determination is made whether the message contains differences between the default configuration and the selected configuration. Values for the default configuration are replaced with the differences, if any, sent in the message.
