  • Publication number: 20040244713
Abstract: A method for achieving a biocidal effect by means of the application of quinone compounds similar to menadione in the prevention of development or eradication of the presence of autotrophic or heterotrophic microorganisms in masses of water, preferably ballast water in marine practice, or in animals. When the method is performed in water it provides for a simple mixing of a series of compounds into the mass of liquid to be treated, whereas if one intends to use the biocidal properties of the described compounds in the zootechnical field, the compounds are incorporated in medicinal compositions, which are then administered to the animals to be treated.

  • Publication number: 20040232089
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for the treatment of water pools, preferably fresh or salt water in basins of any size, waters in conduits for civil and industrial use, and ballast waters in the maritime practice. Aim of the invention is to remove biological contamination by plant and animal organisms. Particularly, this method exploits thebiocidal properties of some of the menadione derivatives.

  • Patent number: 6596064
Abstract: A use of tetralin derivatives as biocidal and antifouling agents for preventing and slowing the growth of algae, molds and microorganisms. In particular, the vitamin derivatives are constituted by salts of menadione bisulfite with the heterocyclic bases triazine and piperazine.

  • Patent number: 6488924
Abstract: A vitamin K adduct, particularly suitable as vitamin supplement for feeds, constitued by menadione bisulfite bonded with an appropriate ion-exchange resin and exceptionally stabilized thereby. The adduct can be used as an antihemorrhagic additive for farm animal feeds. The high thermal stability of the vitamin adduct allows to use it in modern technologies for producing feeds in extruded form.
