  • Patent number: 4643805
Abstract: A method and bath therefor for electroplating improved zinc base-cobalt containing alloys. The bath contains a brightening agent dispersed therein of a class of compounds having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents an aromatic nucleus such as phenyl, pyridyl, naphthyl, thienyl or furyl which may have one or several substituents selected from hydroxy, chloro, amino, amido or methylenedioxy and R.sub.2 is alkyl, hydroxyalkyl or pyridyl. The baths also contains conventional additives such as wetting agents and aromatic monocarboxylic acids or salts thereof. The baths generally have a pH range of 3.0 to 6.8.

  • Patent number: 4536261
Abstract: A zinc electroplating bath comprising as a brightener additive a reaction product of an heterocyclic pentagonal or hexagonal compound with a cyclic carbonate; the ensuing product is then reacted with an epihalohydrin or an alpha-dihalohydrin which ensuing product is then reacted with a compound of the general formula ##STR1## wherein x represents a hydrogen atom or a phenyl radical;R.sub.1 represents an alkenylene, alkylene, haloalkenylene, hydroxyalkenylene or carboxy (hydroxy) alkenylene group; andR.sub.2 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, haloalkyl or halohydroxyalkyl group.

  • Patent number: 4242182
Abstract: Improved electrolytic tin deposition from aqueous, acid electroplating baths is achieved by addition of a new formula of brighteners. These results are achieved by further addition of unsaturated aliphatic acids or their derivates and still better results are achieved by further addition of certain heterocyclic quarternary compounds.

  • Patent number: 4226682
Abstract: Brighteners for electrolytic acid zinc baths having the general formula: ##STR1## About 0.05 to 2.0 grams brightener are added for every liter of zinc bath to produce bright ductile zinc electrodeposits. Several types of wetting agents are used as dispersants in the zinc bath which has a pH of about 3.0 to 6.8. Other known brighteners may be added to the bath to obtain variations of the quality of the zinc deposits.

  • Patent number: 4222829
Abstract: Bright zinc electrodeposition is accomplished in a noncyanide alkaline bath using a water soluble, nitrogen-containing polymer having recurrent units of ##STR1## liberally substituted. The polymers of the invention are generally formed by the acylation of polyalkylamines and similar polymers with acid chlorides of various organic acids.

  • Patent number: 4077855
Abstract: A primary brightener for use in aqueous nickel electroplating baths has the following general formula: ##STR1## wherein: R.sub.1 is methyl, ethyl or a hydroxyethyl radical;R.sub.2 is alkenyl, alkynyl, hydroxy-substituted alkynyl or lower alkyl-substituted alkynyl;R.sub.3 is lower alkylene, lower alkoxyalkylene, lower alkynylene, lower alkoxy-alkenylene, hydroxy-substituted lower alkylene, carboxy-substituted lower alkylene or hydroxy- and methyl-substituted lower aminoalkylene;R.sub.4 is a sulfonic radical (--SO.sub.3 --) or an aliphatic carboxyester group ##STR2## where R.sub.5 is alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, alkoxyalkynyl, dialkoxyalkynyl, hydroxyalkyl, hydroxyalkenyl, hydroxyalkynyl, haloalkyl, halohydroxyalkyl, halohydroxyalkynyl or hydroxyalkoxyalkynyl; andX is halogen or hydroxy when the positive charge on the nitrogen atom is not otherwise neutralized and X is absent when said charge is neutralized by another substituent of the molecule.

  • Patent number: 4022676
Abstract: Brightening agents for alkaline zincate electroplating baths; either cyanide or non-cyanide-containing; are disclosed. The brighteners are polymers characterized by recurrent units of an alkylene amine wherein nitrogen atoms are bound to an aliphatic sulfoxylated group having the formula:--R.sub.1 --SO.sub.3 Mwhere R.sub.1 is selected from the group consisting of a lower alkylene group, a hydroxy substituted lower alkylene group, a lower alkyl substituted lower alkylene group, a lower alkoxy substituted lower alkylene group, a lower alkoxy substituted lower alkene group; and M is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, an alkali metal, zinc and ammonium; where "lower" means having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms; and where said polymer is present in an effective concentration to produce bright, ductile, uniform, non-blistering zinc deposits.
